Spark Plug Composition: Does it matter?

    Let me begin this post by admitting that this is a general question, and is NOT specific to the Toyota Tacoma. I am asking for your guys' and gals' opinion based on your experiences with ANY vehicle you have owned. (MODS: if this post is not allowed I will gladly take it down since it is not Tacoma specific)

    Recently I decided to replace the spark plugs in my fiance's Mazda 3. So, I went on to NGK's website, ordered a set of platinum plugs, and went about my day. However, upon further reading, I have found that the Mazda 3 DOES call for NGK's (as they make the OEM plugs), but that they be Iridium. This information reached me too late however, and the plugs are already on their way.

    So here is my actual question, in your opinion does the metal composition matter? NGK's website clearly stated that the platinum plug would work despite the fact this particular vehicle calls for Iridiums. Should I just run the plugs and forget about it, chalking it up to my over cautiousness? Or should I send them back and run the iridium equivalent?

    I appreciate all and any THOUGHTFUL responses.

    BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    Drive them but consider changing them in another 20-25k. I don't think they last as long as iridium

    I think they say you can get up to 100k on iridium but the other plugs wear out around 30k, tops. So you're good for a few years. I wouldn't worry about it.

    Iridium plugs are used on a lot of vehicles where it is a PITA to get to the plugs. For example under a Supercharger. On my Highlander the motor was transverse mounted. It took me two short days to remove everything to get to the intake manifold remove it change plugs and put everything back together (the dealer wanted $450 to change plugs). So the 100K life is a plus vs the extra cost.
