Long Range Offroad R&D for Aux Fuel Tank

Hey guys! I've been emailing back & forth with Long Range Offroad about an auxiliary gas tank for our Tacomas. They have one for the Hilux, but due to frame differences and other clearance issues, it is not compatible with the Tacoma.

Their sales manager claims that there is not enough interest in this product for them to perform the R&D for product development. I think that there is, so I've started a petition to prove him wrong, and hopefully jumpstart a new product for us!!

I am interested. I am also curious, how would you switch between tanks?

 

It is a transfer tank, so there would be a switched pump to move gas from the aux to the main.

 

All depends on execution and cost. I carry spare fuel every outing as we are usually gone for a couple days. Have link to the comparable hilux product?

I was looking at others and I could not justify the $900 price tag for 8 gals of added fuel when two jerry cans at harbor freight costs you $40 and adds 10. so this maybe something to look into..

 

This isn't for a replacement tank that adds 8 gallons. This is for a SECONDARY tank that adds 30+ gallons

 

If I plugged it all in correctly:
There is a secondary tank that replaces the spare tire. That is a non-starter for me, I'm not going to run a swing-out carrier and the spare is a must.
Then there is a replacement tank that adds 17 gallons over the OEM tank. That seems much more appealing, though it will only make taco lean worse. Realistically while I would be interested, it would be hard to justify the costs to pull the trigger.

 

The tank they have is for the Hilux though, and won't fit the Tacoma.

 

exactly this way you can justify the expense.

 

Id be interested in a larger replacement tank for sure. Aux tank with a transfer pump not so much.

I believe this is what you're talking about. 34.078 gallons. Fits second gens (05 - 15) short bed only. Though you could modify the frame with a cross-member to make it fit a long bed. I too have been seriously thinking about this along with two 5 gallon jerry cans would make for an awesome long road trip. Upwards of an estimated 450 Miles per tank would be nice especially when loaded down with a full bed of gear. Additionally, it looks like its constructed with some heavy duty aluminium so there shouldn't be a need for gas tank armor.

Yeah, I don't want to replace the stock tank though, I want to make use of the spare tire cavity to more than double my fuel capacity!

 

I had plugged in the Hilux info, not the Tacoma. 38 gal for the Hilux. But good to know there is a Tacoma option, I'm curious what that runs as prices are not listed. But the OP wants serious amounts of fuel capacity.

This is where my head was leaning towards, Since a 31 and above does not fit in the spare tire cavity, (without modifying) I was thinking of adding a fuel tank and I think Ill still be able to add a water tank too, but then im playing with the devils advocate of weight ratios, so gas tank it is....

I've been pretty spoiled with the ~38 gallons in my F150, I've been looking for something like this in the Tacoma I hope to be able to buy within the year! Signed!
