    Hello TW!

Currently have a Canon XSI with the 18-55, 55-250 and Tamron 10-24 lenses. I rarely use the tamron and mostly use the camera on hikes and pics of the dogs/mtns. Also have a new born so a lot of indoor pics of the kid and the camera seems to be pretty poor indoors.

My Dad was in town with his new 80D with the 18-135mm and it covered all I would ever use basically 98% of the time. So I found a store that would buy my gear for about $400. The 80d and lens are about $1600....curious if anyone has any opinions. The video option is very nice as well.

    Thanks!

I had a XSi for 8 years before upgrading to the 7DII and I have been very happy with my move. The 7DII upgraded the areas I needed and use the most. For your upgrade, where is the XSi lacking? Figuring out those key points will direct you to the best options. If you want to save money you can possibly go with a used or refurbished 70D. Maybe look and see what the differences are between the 80D and its recent predecessors to see if other options will also work. Then again if you have been using a XSi for this long and plan to keep the 80D for a long time it may make more sense to get the newest body now.

The 80D is a great camera and should suit you well! It's pretty comparably to the 7D2 but has a little more resolution and maybe better video? I think the 7D2 has better weather sealing and a more robust autofocus system that is more customizable. I see a lot of people with both and don't think you could go wrong with either! They are crop sensors so they don't do the best in low light or high ISO but if you don't plan on much of that and just want a overall decent body than they are a good choice!

If photography is more important and video, I'd recommend getting a used Canon 6D. It's a great camera, full frame, attach a 35 prime and your styling. Once you full, there's no going back. Used I've seen them go as cheap as 600 bucks. Video is quite good too if all you need is 1080p

I've been happy with the 760d/t6s. The 80d is comparable. I shoot birds mostly, so crop sensors work well for me.
