I realize that I hadn't actually posted this in the second generation room yet, but my '09 Taco has been upgraded to a 2012. Not willingly mind you. My 2009 was totaled by a lady in a late-model Lincoln who rear-ended me.

    20160908_093602.jpg

It doesn't look that bad and I'm not sure why they totaled it (well they said they have to replace the whole frame) but I didn't fight it because they gave me $25.5k on a truck I paid $30k for 8 years ago.

Of course I spent way more on the new one. This is the 2012 I bought.VZM.IMG_20160917_134857.jpg

AAA towed the old one away Monday. Out with the old and in with the new.
    20160917_170832.jpg

I actually overpaid for this one when I could have bought a brand new model. This one only has 32,000 miles, and was nearly perfect inside and out. The long bed double cab is hard to find around here, and in fact this is the only good used one I found in this area, searching the internet and the local car lots.

If I had driven to Texas I could have saved about $5,000, but who has the time? Anyhow this one apparently had some stains because they put new carpets, new carpet floor mats and new factory seat upholstery in the cab. At first I thought it had been in a flood or somebody had backed it into the lake launching their boat, but I pulled up some stuff and everything appears to be clean. This one spent two years in Huntington Beach with some rich folks. Well I don't know... Huntington Beach is very expensive and evidently they had four cars because I have their old insurance papers from the glove box. Evidently they got divorced because the later insurance papers show one of them move to Bakersfield and he had only the Tacoma. So it's been 2 years in Bakersfield and didn't get driven much.

The undercarriage has a tiny bit more rust than my '09, which had hardly ever been to the beach & lived here in the desert.

Anyhow I could have bought a brand new one, but I drove one and I didn't like the engine as well. Also all my old parts from the 09 fit on the 12.

I swapped over the Bilstein 5100's, the Undercover tonneau cover, the custom rear anti-sway bar rig, and the airbag setup, plus my grey floor mats. The new one has black carpeting, which I didn't like. I also would have preferred the whole truck be white, but everyone seems to like this color (though it gets dirty real fast.)

It sits up pretty well with the four leaf springs & the rear air bags.

I've been so happy with the 09 there was no question in my mind that I would replace it with exactly the same truck.

But this is as close as I could come, and though it's a bit heavier and there are minor things I don't care for, all in all it is terrific. And God knows they got the best resale value in the industry.

You dont know the market here. Try to find a lbdc here. There was only one brand new one available in the area.

Its a sellers market, not like Florida or Texas. Think more like Hollywood prices.

The only new one in town that was a long bed double cab was marked over $42,000. That's as much as a Tundra. In fact the Tundra's are way more available because people don't want them as much.

Also I got the extended warranty and part of that 36k was taxes and fees, and our taxes are much higher than yours.

Wow, where in CA are you? How many miles were on your 2012 when you bought it?

I got my 2013 TRD Prerunner down in San Diego, had 7k miles on it when I bought it and I paid 30k out the door. I thought that was expensive.

Correct. And I'm glad I don't have too. Being in another state doesn't make a mobile object like a vehicle worth more or less. So, still 'wow' to me.

OK. Sounds like you need to toss your politicians on their ears.

Anyway, enjoy. It is a beautiful state for sure. Glad your accident didn't create injury, your insurance worked out, and you were able to transfer gear.

ALL Tacoma's here are expensive. Hell even the old beat up 22RE Toyota pick-ups demand a premium. I met another Taco owner who had a 2001 Taco Regular cab, pristine condition, 160K mi, wanted $8K!

I'm East of Clovis. My neighborhood was a fig orchard until the 1990s. Now it's the burbs.

Guys, I certainly overpaid  but I didn't have to haggle about the price. I'm a lucky guy. I could afford it without a second thought.

There's a huge demand for trucks here because of all the farming out in the valley. Consequently, trucks are more expensive here than just about any other part of the nation.

Because there are so many farm trucks, nice used trucks that haven't been used to haul feed and fertilizer go for a premium; and nice Toyotas go for the top premium. I could have bought any new full sized American truck for that. All too big for my taste.

They're asking around $20k for nice used early gen2's with 150k-180k miles here. They sold new for $27k plus taxes. Best resale in the industry.

Is it a DCLB? They're very hard to find here. Mine had 32k on the odometer. The '09 had 65k on it.

Nope, DCSB (TRD Off Road). You are right, long beds are harder to find it seems.

Point is you are happy and got a sweet truck. Congrats! Now take it up into Kings Canyon and see what it can do!
