Does anyone know the type and quantity of bulbs that the cluster uses?

I am asking specifically in relation to 2001-2004 (2001 in my case), but if someone has comprehensive information then please feel free to post this to help others looking for the info.

From what I understand, there are four 194 type bulbs used for cluster illumination, and they are clear bulbs with an amber cover over them.

What about all the other indicator bulbs? Turn signal, 4wd, oil, brake light, airbag, low on gas light, etc. Quantity needed?

I would like to know the OE bulb type, and do not have any interest in upgrading to LED's. I would pull the cluster and identify them all and the quantity, but I would like to order all the bulbs ahead of time and have them on hand to replace them all.

Also, a bit of a side question, does anyone know how to trip the 4wd indicator light? I do not think it is supposed to come on with key in accessory position? My 4wd light does not work (4wd does work though). I know in some cases people have a blinking 4wd light when it is malfunctioning, is there a way to easily force this to happen just to see if this light works?

    TIA!

There are quite a few threads on this topic already. Give me a sec for the link. Your 4wd light is probably just burnt out and need replaced. You are correct on the 194 bulb size for the cluster.

My apologize for what is information that has been hashed out before. I searched, for more time today then I care to admit. Those threads you linked are more focused on general lighting and cluster illumination / HVAC then the indicator lights in the cluster.

Here is my thing... everyone says, "194 bulbs in the cluster" all day long... but looking at photos of the back of these clusters, and I would assume the indicator bulbs are a different size then the cluster illumination bulbs.

Aside from the 4 black large cluster illumination bulbs, all of the indicators look like they would use smaller bulbs. Unless these housings for the bulbs are not indicative of the size of the bulb, but I would think they would be. I also would assume that the bulbs illuminating the cluster would be larger then what would be used to light up these small indicators.

So really, this is what my question boils down to. I have yet to see a thread stating specifically what these indicator bulbs use on 2001-2004's. I saw a thread on another forum state they use 74 type bulbs in the cluster as well for earlier Tacomas. So if I had to make a guess, I would think these indicator bulbs are 74 type, but I may need to pull the cluster to find out for sure unless someone has a directed answer to this.

    Also superbright
The indicator bulbs are a #74 bulb socket size and are all the same minus the 4 194's

I've done a mod or two
I replaced all but the 4 big backlight ones with 74 and had no issues.

they must have gone to the grey sockets for the 01-04 trucks then

the 74 sockets fit there so I stole the bulb for the rear diff locker and used it with the 74 LED bulb I had bought for it so im all good now

hmmm I wonder why they switched over to the grey ones and also made them just a hair bigger socket so they will only fit in the low gas light, seat belt, and air bag was deployed, light sockets?????????????
