Another member had his cats replaced when his truck suffered the same failure.

That was before they broke down and changed the CPS though. I think it was a misdiagnosis.

Toyota certified used Tacomas have a Toyota warranty good at any dealer, similar to a new truck warranty. Mine came with one but that's all I know as it hasn't broken down.

That's it for the dealer. Call corporate, refer to your case, thank them for the help, then use the 'script' given you yesterday requesting the upgraded warranty.

If you don't, shame on you. You called yourself a pushover. Don't be.

Don't be a raging bully either, but at least pursue it.

Even if it doesn't happen, you'll be glad you tried. And on record as asking. So if there is another issue, it will be more likely to happen the next time.

Yes request the warranty, you know the one these trucks should basicly come with anyways. Seriously 3 years/ 36,000 miles. That's a joke

It's not in the back... This drawing is somewhat misleading...

EDIT: Let me expand on that... When the CPS fails, it causing timing issues, and raw gas can egress the exhaust, entering the cat, and raw gas can kill the cat.

For the physicists among you... I am NOT referring to Schrodinger's Cat.

I believe the drivetrain is 5 years/60k miles. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Warranties are good sales tool that's all. I just want a reliable well built vehicle for my money.

Must we have several traffic casualties before Toyota is forced to recall these too and the NHTSA lines its pockets with another billion dollar fine, and the victims get the leftover pennies?

At least in theory, a faulty csp sensor could send the wrong signal to the ecm which in turn may send too much fuel thus burning them as they’re not designed to run that way.
When my friend has his cps sensor changed, it started and ran fine but he called me to have a look because he said it seemed that it had no power or felt like half the power he had before the failed cps.
When I drove it, at first it felt like they or the exhaust was clogged, but they looked normal on the outside and told him they may have cleared the short term memory drive parameters when they cleared the codes and to drive it for a few days before making a wasted trip to the stealer, as there were no codes and all else was normal.
He called me a week later after a couple hundred miles and said everything seem back to normal and he was happy, but still shaken from the experience.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

If you don't upgrade the warranty, then you're stuck with 3 years/30K miles. The 5 years/60K miles is an extra cost that's presented when you speak with a financial advisor. It happened to me when I purchased mine a few weeks ago.

Well then my financial advisor is a dumbass. Then again, he said it was his second day on the job...

I'm glad to know my powertrain is up for 5 years. Who knows how long this damn tranny is gonna hold post TSB.

    Or something like that...

    "Federal regulations require that this
warranty be in effect for two years or
    24,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service
    date, whichever occurs first. However,
under the terms of the Basic Warranty,
Toyota provides coverage of three years or
    36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
    Specific components may have longer
coverage under the terms of the
    Powertrain Warranty. Additionally,
components marked "8/80" in the parts
list on pages 18–19 have coverage of
eight years or 80,000 miles, whichever
    occurs first."

Might want to check your paperwork.
You might have inadvertently bought a full coverage warranty for 5yr/60,000 through the dealership.

Oh it's no worries. I know I didn't buy any extra full coverage warranty. I told them I'm not purchasing any extra warranties and I'm sticking with the warranties that come with the truck. I didn't get the electrical warranty either. I just got the bone stock.

Good call. I bypassed the extra warranty tax on my last 5 Toyota's, three are gone without having used any warranty claims and I still have that money in the bank and the one for the taco to negate a loss on a trade should this taco become a liability or source of grief to me.

    Cheers!

I have around 500,000 worry free miles on my two previous toyotas, never stranded. 20000 on this one and I'm stuck on the side of the road
