Does the gear oil even get hot enough to warrant a cooler?

I don't know. My point was, as manual owner with a tow package, you are paying the same as an auto, however there is one less item.

Edit: the tow package is 650, for both the auto or manual. I guess that was not very easy to understand

Have it on my Passat. Can't say I miss it, but I can see how it would be helpful to some.

View the glass as half full. Getting a MT, you're upgrading to equipment that's not particularly vulnerable to heat generation under extra load. So a transmission cooler isn't *needed* even when towing.

Less vulnerability, list risk, less piping to leak or go amok: priceless MT benefit.

If your goal in buying a vehicle is to get as many mechanical baubles as possible, should've considered a Kia or something (stuff over substance!)

NO, my point is as a Manual purchaser, you are PAYING the SAME as an automatic trans buyer, but we get less stuff. 2 reasons why I started buying mans, less shit to go wrong (auto trans issues), and they used to cost less to purchase. Now a manual trans cost at least the same if not more.

Now I won't buy anything with out a manual trans, just not sure how much longer this will be an option.

I know that beginners can't always know what gear it is in by speed and sound, but I found it easy to train my kids on the Toyota. When taking out of gear the shifter naturally seeks the spot between 3rd and 4th. When you take it out of gear you can feel how it moves and know both where it was and where you are. THAT is the feeling I want them to learn and I want them to learn it immediately. In fact, I taught them and had them practice this with the truck standing still before ever driving. The LAST thing I want is them taking their eyes off the road to visually search for what gear the truck is in. While moving I want them to learn when to shift by RPMs and sound, not what gear they are in.

How long will we have MTs? IMO not too much longer. Ever increasing mileage standards are moving cars well beyond 6 speeds. 9 speeds are not at all uncommon today. The constant shifting and variability of shift points is not really compatible with a MT.

Nice to have? Sure. Our VW TDI has it and it's a neat little feature. Our Subaru Impreza does not and it shifts just fine. I had an 01 Taco with no tac and shifted just fine with it.

Need to have? Nah. And I won't gripe about the AT having it and the MT not; AT drivers might NEED it

Apples to Apples an AT with a tow package is a lot more than a MT with a tow package.

My gen 1 doesn't have a tachometer and doesn't have a tripometer or doesn't have a clock either

An automatic transmission with a tow package is the same cost as a manual transmission with a tow package?

OK, lets make is simple and break it down. Your original claim verbatim : "I don't know. My point was, as manual owner with a tow package, you are paying the same as an auto, however there is one less item."

    You either meant:

"The cost of a MT with tow package is the same as the cost of an auto without tow package" in which case you did not get one less item...you got a friggin tow package which I think is worth more than a gear indicator. Also the cost is NOT the same other things being equal. The tow package adds $650 while the automatic transmission adds around $1200-1300. If your MT with tow package cost the same as a given AT without tow package then your truck had even more options added, so again you are not getting less you are getting more.

    OR....you meant:

"The cost of an MT with tow package is the same at the cost of an auto WITH tow package." in which case you are completely off, there is a $1200-1300 difference unless again you are loaded up with $1200 worth of options which are not on the AT, so again you did not get less, you got more.

Feel free to trash my response...not worth discussing any more.

Yeah same as the rev match. Never thought I needed it. After driving cars with rev match and gear selector showing the number, its pretty cool. Nothing I NEED to use, just something extra. Like power windows...

Manual taco costs 1200 or so less than an auto. End of discussion.
