Stumbled across this pneumatic diff lock actuator that replaces the factory electric locker motor. Not sure if it would work but it definitely seems like an interesting idea and a great one for us in the salt belt. That is if it actually works.

The guy has zero feedback and is in Russia so I'm a little skeptical. I figured I would share my findings and see what you guys think. It seems like a great option if it would work.

Has anyone heard or seen anything like this before?

An interesting concept. Turns an elocker into and air locker for the 8" diff. This also assumes the 1st gen Tacoma 8" diff is identical to the Hilux 8" in Hilux's that are newer than 1st gen models. That may be a big assumption.

Which, in my opinion, is a step backwards. The only reason I'd seek out a factory elocker over an ARB is that it is electronic.

Unfortunately, the Toyota elocker is vulnerable to corrosion, road salts, mud, etc. It also has a tendency to have issues once it is disturbed, like after a regear.

Repair and/or replacement are problematic and expensive for most owners that have issues with their elocker. If this solution works on 1st gens, it is a very competitive option.

Yeah I could see how it would make sense if you already have an elocker.

Yeah, to use this actuator you have to already have a diff with the elocker, this actuator mounts where the elocker is now. This solution wont work on your diff as the '96 models all came with the 8.4" open diff. No elocker mount on those.

Yes, I understand. I meant that if I was installing a locker I would seek out an elocker axle for my truck over having an ARB installed because I prefer the electronic activation over air.
