Redline MT90.
Anybody else not impressed?
I drained the last of that garbage out of my truck last night. Re-filled with Lucas and I no longer need a new transmission.
I don't recommend it. I did put the drained Redline in my lawnmower though, seems ok in there. Never again in the truck.

 

I've had it in my transmission for like 40k miles and been happy. Made it easier to get into 1sr gear, and work much better in the cold.

What didn't you like about it?

 

well, about the 220,000 mile mark, I was noticing hard shifting and an occasional "lock out" of gears. Not being able to shift at all. Never heard any noise or grinding, just got real stiff.
So I tried the MT90, you know how this site is....
And it did shift easier, but at the cost of grinding or "chunking" into gear.
I've been living with it for the last 30,000n miles. Literally having to pause between shifts to prevent the grind. All the while in the back of my mind that a new or rebuilt tranny was in my future.

Well, I was sick of the chunking into gear as of yesterday and decided to try something different. I never liked how the MT90 is the viscosity of mere water. I ran that stuff in the transfer case too, but only for a week. You could hear the chain running in there.

After pouring in the Lucas, the tranny now shifts smooth, no chunking. I couldn't believe it myself and went for a long drive last night. Almost like the synchros self healed.

 

Do it.

And report back for the lulz.

 

Funny you say that. This was one of the very few that actually a true pumpkin taste.

 

The Louisville date is happening. The Lafayette date I decided against. That's just too far to drive.

 

I'm starting to not like the Redline MT90 I have in my gear box.

My shifting started getting notchy with the OEM stuff in it.

So I switched to Royal Purple based on threads I read here. Instantly horrible. Drained it after a month.

Switched to Redline MT90 after reading again. It was either that or Amsoil but I couldn't find the latter in my area.

When I first put Redline in, it felt smoother and much better than Royal Purple. But in the last few months it's gotten very notchy and impossible to put in 1st gear sometimes. Part of my fears is that the Royal Purple ate away at the synchros or something. But I'm hoping switching to something else makes a difference or else I hate the feeling I'm living with about my transmission

 

Only as long as they are sliding away from you. When they are coming at you its no fun.

 

They border each other and Lafayette is right on 287.

What Lucas oil did you get? Obviously 75-90 but is there a specific one that's friendly for the synchros?

I would like to do it sooner rather then later but we need ten for sures and i dont know who is still on board with this.
