There are center pins on the leafs for the axle but IMO there is enough wiggle room for toe to be off because of axle positioning when you tighten ubolts back down. I say this because my last alignment before I swapped out my shit leafs with some 5k mile ones off somebody's 2015 was like -.2 and -.3 on rr toe. After swapping springs never really thought about it until getting new tires and the alignment that came with them and the rr toe was like -.6 on one side and +.3 on the other. This didn't make it drive noticeably different but I believe the ubolts can be loosened enough with truck lifted where springs can droop and push axle forward on the positive side while pulling back on the negative side then tighten ubolts back down and it should have enough play to get back closer to even amount of negative toe like it was. That is most likely why an alignment is specified with replacing the leafs in this recall.

And before anyone goes there, nothing happened between leaf replacement to damage anything associated with any of this for toe to be off. The correct part number is on the correct side of truck or that would be obvious when you try to fasten e-brake cables.

just got my truck back and the tech had to cut the u bolts in order to get them off. i guess i won't be installing my blocks and add a leaf anytime soon!!!. the blocks and AAL are in pretty bad shape anyway. i was thinking about getting a set of dakar's anyway so now i guess i have a reason. what all do i need to buy now that i have a freshly done recall.

    (4) U-Bolts OMEU53A
    (2) Leaf springs CS047R
    (1) Driveline Spacer Kit FK29
.... Rear Bushings? or can i use the new ones toyota just put on the truck?

My 06 taco w/ 180k miles was dragging some serious ass lately. Actually ruined 2 tires and blew out both rear shocks bottoming out so hard towing a trailer.
Called the dealership and they swapped out both leafs under recall owed them nothing.
    Rides much better now.
The new leads have 3 leafs old ones had 2 and more clamps to hold the pack together.

I suggest anyone with a taco under recall get new springs adapt especially if you tow
Or you will need new shocks and possibly rear tires

Had mine done yesterday. The ride seems softer than with the 4 leaf (TSB) pack I had.

That tire isn't WORN crooked, that tire is torn apart. Broken suspension parts don't do that, overloading does that. Also, excess weight doesn't blow out shocks unless you have too long of shocks installed. Shock should NEVER be able to bottom out.

Agree with the bottom out - but how about top out??

Yeah that tire has had it - what's the Model of the tire, Smallpackageman 6 ?? Just "HOW Much" overloaded was it to do this??? Were you hauling a house??

Did anyone's dealership do a wheel alignment check after the new spring pack was installed? Before the new pack was put on mine, the steering wheel lined up perfectly and when I went hands off, the truck ran true and straight. Now the wheel hangs slightly to the left and the truck pulls in that direction also.

When my 4 leaf pack was put in, they did an alignment check and all was well. It was not done this time around.

I have an appointment to get the alignment checked and corrected next week.

I typically tow heavy loads long distances with the taco been doing so for 3 years with no problem

This time I had around 7000 pounds of wrecked Dodge Charger & 2 axle car trailer ( I part out cars on eBay)
This particular time the leaf let go and was bottoming out extra hard on a 300 mile trek
Both rear tires had the steel belts let loose

The shocks are original and were on the way out for a while so bottoming out probably finished them off

I finally got mine done this past Monday. The dealer, normally responsive, drug their a$$ on this one. Had it inspected back on 7/14 and was told it qualified-parts in 2-3 weeks. Crickets. Called service advisor-left message. Crickets. Called again-same reply. Called third time for service Mgr and passed to another service advisor. He said parts had been in for about a month so I made a appt for Monday. On Monday am, there was no appointment when I went in to drop it off But they took it. Picked it up that evening and all was good.
The truck sits about 3/4" higher than the old springs. See pics, 19-3/8" before, 20-1/8" after. The yellow part # is the left side and the white is the right.
I've driven about 85 miles and the ride is about the same to a little firmer than the old springs but it seems to have a quicker response to bumps and dips. No alignment but I didn't expect one and it doesn't seem necessary. Typically factory leafs fit one way to a bead on the axle and a divot on the springs. I haven't pulled my trailer yet but I expect a better ride. I typically use a weight distribution hitch w/o issue so the 3+1 set up should make for a more confident ride.
All said, so far it's an improvement over the OE stock 2+1. I say get yours today.

So is there a way to check if my 2011 4x4 is eligible for this recall? Or are All 05-2011 eligible? And also did you just go to the dealership and tell them or what? Thanks

www.toyota.com/recall... i just called them and was in the shop 2 weeks later. the had all parts in stock though.

im not happy with em tho, had them 2 days and they are already starting to sag and the are not even like the old ones were. the passenger one already has a funny wave in the 1st leaf, if yours are not showing fatigue i would postpone the recall.

I had the 4 leaf (TSB) pack installed some years back and liked the firm ride it provided.

Before having the new springs installed, I told the service rep. to be sure to get me the replacement springs for the 4 leaf pack.

Research showed me the KIT # for that replacement is 04005-34404 and each spring is 48220-04300 for the left spring and 48210-04660 for the right spring. I checked them and all was correct, but the ride height is lower and the rear end seems a little softer than before.

I think I would never have gotten the recall done had I known that. It would be interesting to know just how many gas tanks were actually punctured.

Could use a quick suggestion here, toyota is supposed to be calling me back soon for an answer...

Getting this recall done as we speak, the service department just called and said:

    1. They want me to pay 1/2 hour of labor ($70+) to remove add a leaf from old leaf pack. They will not just give me the whole leaf pack as they have to send it back to Toyota

    2. They said the add a lead will not work with the new leafs (this is on a 2006 tacoma with pro comp 6'' lift kit)

    3. They Said that they cut the old u-bolts off and now they can not put the lift block on without longer u bolts which they also want me to pay for.

What should I do? Should I let them keep the add a leaf? Is there really no way to make it work? Assuming they are going to try and charge me rediculous price for u bolts so probably will just leave the blocks out until I get home and order some myself...

got mine done today--5 October 2016. Had the "inspection" done 29 May, so it took just over 4 months to get the springs that were needed to do the recall work. Did not notice much, if any change whilst on pavement, but the 3 miles from pavement to my parking pad convinced me that the new springs are indeed stiffer than

Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.

Nah the damn dealership is just giving you "the business" (aka..sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me). It appears as though the dealership is unwilling to replace and do the job totally free and want you to compensate them some sort of $$$ from, you the customer.
Read the "re-call notice" to them and it specifically states that they are required to replace all parts associated with the removal of the old and installation of the new leaf springs (ubolts, leaf springs, etc.).

Don't let them try to f#*k you over on this.

I recently had mine done a few weeks back and they didn't ask for no $ at all for anything.
