A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Late 2nd Gen 5 lug.

Will serve the described purposes just fine and cost less. A good bit less. New for 2-3 days a week and plant hauling? Puleeze. Tell her to enjoy her savings and take a nice European cruise for a couple of weeks.

If she can live with an access cab version and get the long bed, can easily haul bicycles and kayaks (with a hitch mounted bed extender)

Insurance is cheaper, MPG is better, and while resale maybe weaker in terms of people knocking on your door, (at least to the level lift big tire fan bois) so what? It was cheaper going in. And there will still be plenty of practical minded buyers.

I love my '13. Simple. Comparatively basic. Bought with <9k miles 2 years ago. Nary a hiccup in that time.

I know, I know. I'm the oddball outlier. Don't care. Truck does all I need it to just fine. And no warranty work needed. Unlike a lot of 3rd gens.

If I needed more, I would have bought more. If I'd wanted fast, I'd have bought another sport or muscle car. If I needed a real truck I'd have bought a Tundra or F150. But I bought what I needed.

    She should too.

I was mainly referencing his reports on driving experience being improved, and not his dyno numbers.. nobody who references Tooter's configuration of parts that make his 2.7 less of a dog ever mention the engine has no accessories running off of it.

His truck is also the smallest truck available, I'm not sure how much those improvements would really be noticed on the largest truck available with the same engine.

Access cab is no go. 4 door is a must.
She only buys new. Given that she puts 500-600K miles per auto, I am hardly one to judge.

Also she isn't buying a 5 lugger, she needs the ground clearance for the ranch area.

My truck is not a commercial vehicle nor am I hard up for cash. Why is it that hard for some to understand some people are just happy with the 4 cylinder. I love mine.

Whats her budget? I'm assuming she is in CA since you mentioned San Diego. Has she considered going out of state? Is she after 4x4 or 4x2?

The V6 may be within her budget if she simply jumps a state over where they are willing to deal more. Especially if she is after a 4x2 in a state that predominantly sells 4x4's. I know you bought out of state, have you mentioned it to her?

I think it heavily depends on what she is used to power/torque wise. For someone who doesn't care or doesn't need much, it will be slow but they may not notice or care. But a double cab 4 cyl isn't popular for a reason, that is a whole lot of truck to move for that 4 cylinder engine.

    25-26K is her budget

I told her to use my dealer in OR whom I got the TRD OR and getting my TRD PRO through. She lives in Los Angeles (Malibu). She wants double cab and 4 cyl. Those are her only requirements. Thus she is getting 4x2.

I WAS trying to talk her into a V6. But she is set o n a 4 cyl due to "reliability "

I HAVE a 1st gen 4 cyl double cab. I told here (she has driven it) there is a REASON for Gen 3, I opted V6.

Yeah the comparison between our Gen 1 4 cyl double and Gen 3 V6 double cab is laughable.

Sounds like she should get the I4, it will do just fine.

I don't understand why that is.

I own a 4 cyl and 6 cyl. All I wanted to know is how 4 cyl 3rd gen owners feel about the trucks and if they can compare test driving with a V6.

I don't get the haterade on the 4 cyl, or tell her to buy "something better."

I guess what people do with their money is a hard concept to grasp

Actually he didn't measure the difference, he compared his dyno run to a dyno run of a pre-runner he found online. The pre-runner has heavier wheels/tires which reduce HP/TQ measurements compared to a 5-lug, so it's overstating the gains.

You can't just subtract someone else's before to your after and say +26hp.

    I am not disagreeing with

I personally gave her my V6 TRD Pro for a day as I told her V6 would be great for her. She returned it saying "it is too much truck."

Exactly , now you see my dilemma. After I am done with my TRD Pro, I am moving to a 5.7L, Double Cab, 8 feet bed, Front bench seat, Tundra. That truck will meet ALL my needs. Should have seen my friend's reaction.

I had a Brat Turbo. Head Gasket issues. She knows about it. Won't touch anything used...must less a Subaru :D

For me my dream truck is this. But since Toyota doesn't give me the dual rear wheels, I have to stick with a Tundra

I love my 2.7, and might love it more if it was a V6, but only for 5 days out of the year. I wouldn't mind it to be 4x4, but didn't need another 4x4 (and still don't).

Modified it to my personal needs as far as suspension goes, taller stance since I am 6'7" and don't want to bend over to load something in the bed, better handling of heavy loads since I regularly carry 800-1200 lbs in the bed, better tires, which my medium duty all terrains fulfill. It's the perfect Tacoma for my needs.

6.9 days of the week I get better MPG than the V6 with similar mods, and 7 days of the week I get more engine longevity.

All for $24k. Won't win any races, but I'm not in a rush to hit 500k miles.

Beautiful truck. Is the bumpers mismatched on purpose?

It's an SR5, so the bumper up front is color matched and the rear bumper was chrome.

I got rid of the chrome bumper in flavor of a bed lined version.
