1st Generation 2wd questions

Hey anybody out there have the 1st generation 2wd....maybe be a question for the 4x4 as well. Purchased my little red beast a few years ago as a second truck but the person before me didn't take super great care of it. It's a 96 2wd Tacoma 2.4L. Little things missing here and there, wrong lights and seat belts put in etc. My question is, is there some sort of padding or material behind the seats below the back window that matches the rest of the truck or is it all just bare metal? I've asked a few people selling the 2wd but can't get a respond

 

do you have a picture of the back seat? also, do you have an xtracab or a double? in an xtra there should be a cushion that rides right along the tops of the seats when they are folded up. same fabric as everything else.

This is just a single cab, they didn't make a 4 door back then. I meant to upload a picture but it wasn't working. Hopefully it does this time. Just seems like there should be padding like the extended cab 4x4 I use to have. It's so noisey. Thanks

 

My 04 was just like that, no padding or cover back there at all.

They may have, but my 04 did not. I think at most it may of had a plastic trim piece right below the window

 

Wow u really cant find pictures of behind the seat on google... Ive been in an 98-00 model 5 lugger and non of the metal was exposed like that.

 

Haha i was searching for it on google too, but pics are impossible to find. My bro had a 2001 and I think his was bare too. We must of had the super base model, the back of the seat wasn't even covered.

 

Yes it does? Wondering if some of them didn't. Maybe the 2wd base ones didn't, just don't understand why anyone would take it out. I've written 4 different people on Craigslist who are selling 2wd asking for a picture but nobody wants to respond or take the time

 

My loaded double cab has carpeting behind the back seats, hope that helps

 

Ok so I looked up a Toyota website where you can order basically every single part possible, looks like the base model was in fact bare but the DLX model came with upper and lower interior trim. Wonder if it's pretty much universal/same in size to be able to put in. Guess it's a minor thing to some just seems so noisey with out it. Everything vibrates and you can hear the outside. Thanks everyone for your help. I actually had the bench seat but changed it our for bucket, probably didn't help with sound quality now that it's more open.

 

From what I've seen at my cousins body shop. The Tacoma's with the bench seats had no trim on the back of the cab. Ones with bucket seats have carpet. When I installed buckets in my standard cab, I found someone selling their factory back carpet. Helps a little with the noise, and looks nicer.

I have a 96 2rz 5 speed, 5 lug reg cab also. It is the base model. It doesn't have anything behind the seat. I'm not sure what trim packages where available for the 5 lug Tacoma's, but I'm pretty sure the base models did not get a cover for the cab behind the seat. Maybe a higher trim package did or newer later year model?

I have a '99 Tacoma that seems pretty bare - manual, bench (cloth) seat, etc. I just had bare metal. I added a sound mat -

3M 38500 19-11/16" x 19-11/16" Sound Reduction Mat, (Case of 4)

That 3m stuff is ridiculously overpriced. But sound deadening is a great investment.

The gtmat and noico stuff on ebay are great bang for buck. Peel n seal is also an option but ive found it can leave an odor when left in the sun on a hot day.

 

@devinzz1 Cool - good to know. Fortunately, the back side of the cab wasn't so big, so I didn't need a lot of the stuff.

I recently just purchased a 02 single cab 2.4 2wd auto it doesn't have a cover just bare metal to the floor then carpet hope this helps
