Too poor to list anything interesting.
So I'm starting to run into issues with getting together with a few friends to game. I'm looking at the possibility of virtual board gaming.

Any one have any experience with system such as Tabletop Simulator? I could see how many games would be fun to play, but the one that requires bluffing could be hard (i.e. Battlestar). Perhaps we would just lose that face to face experience when it comes to trying to read expressions. I could see other games won't really have too much of an effect.

Has anyone gamed with a group virtually?

Does Trivia Crack or Words With Friends count?

I have tabletop simulator and love it. Some of the games don't do well with a mouse but it works well for most everything else.

Guess I'll need to keep my eyes peeled on when the 4-pack goes on sale.

Can't beat free games either. The workshop is loaded with stuff.

I saw that. Mainly user built ones. Seems like a good way to test those expensive/longer games with friends before you make the commitment to buy them.

But I'd like it more as a way to see how things are setup and how the game goes vs staring at the rulebook for 10 minutes like a schmuck.

Meh, there are still a lot of games I don't know how to play simply because the rulebook is huge and I don't want to spend the time to learn if no one I play with wants to give it a go. We play Risk mainly but also other things like monopoly, sorry!, life, cards, and whatever else we feel like. The DLCs really aren't worth it, the user created games, which are just exact replicas of the real deal 80% of the time work just fine.

Going to play Legendary for the first time. Seems pretty similar to Dominion, so hopefully the learning curve won't be too crazy.

Forgot to report back about Legendary. :sorry:

It was pretty easy to pick up. I've done several deck building games, and played MTG for longer than I care to admit, so our group had a great time. Would I play it again? Sure! Deck building games aren't too bad for me. Even though the setup can be a little tedious. But luckily the box comes with slots for sections of cards as well as dividers.

@TXSmiley will be gone for most of this weekend, so we're looking at a guy's game night on Friday. :woot:

Not sure what we'll all play. It's looking like about 6-8 may be there, and hopefully one of my friends will bring his game; Bureaunauts.

Wish I had some folks here. Most people just want to get drunk on the weekend instead.

Guys night was fun. Had 5 people show up ready to game. Also had one person show up drunk, started watching One Punch Man and passed out in 15 minutes.

But for us sober-ish people, we had fun. First game was Brewin' USA. Basically you'll brew beer with ingredient cards, and then try to control cities. Currency is bottle caps, and the city tiles are coasters. The best part was that the beer you make is ACTUAL beer from around the USA.

After that we played some Coup which seemed like an easy, bullshit/getting to know you game. I'll probably end up picking it up as it reminds me of a lighter version of The Resistance.

They're looking at doing anther guys game night and maybe so next month. But I believe next weekend, I'm going to hang out with another couple. Not sure if we'll game, but maybe so. If we do, team games for days!

    Random question

So one of the bartenders at the brewery I frequent is into games and mentioned how his gaming group left the state. He always talks about games and asks if I've played X,Y, or Z. I've invited him to a few game nights and he says sure but is generally a no show.

The Ms. says it's probably a not wanting to mix work with outside thing. But, do you think I should keep inviting him? Or just leave it, and keep inviting him to fast games during slow times at the brewery?

Meh, I'd just leave it. Not worth the aggravation when you try to set nights up.

I'm a fan of smaller game nights (5-6). Less trying to figure how how many snacks to bring or food to prepare for.

But the larger game nights do make for some awesome times where you can have 2-3 smaller games running at the same time.

I try to get my wife into playing a game or two of Magic with me and it's like pulling teeth most of the time.
