What would I really expect to gain? Im getting the ucon with in the year and i would do these when I do the cam gears

It would mean using the stock cam gears with the cams.

If I weren't going to ditch the 4.0 i might be down. But an LS platform is looking more realistic every day

 

Any way to find out what the gains could be?

 

When my friend gets his engine finished, that will be the closest engine to stock, with cams, that we'll have for comparisons.

 

What kind of gains are we talking about here and will I be able to slap these into the stock engine and rock on ? ? ?

 

Believe all you need to do is upgrade to stiffer valve springs

 

Sweet, so torque gains and different (better or worse, hopefully better) gas consumption rates and wider / sooner power band are going to be a given.

Slapping them into the engine, is a teeny tiny understatement.

To quote myself.

You'll have to replace the valve springs. It can be done with the engine in the bay. There are tools and methods to do so. Or pull the heads and swap the springs on a table. I purchased a freaking awesome tool to release the retainers. I can share that if need be.

Then, you need to verify valve lash between the cam and bucket. To make sure that the gap is of the proper tolerance.

To do the intake cams, means removal of the timing cover.

A lengthy project, to speak honestly.

To simplify things, which I mean by keeping the same base circle ( which means that your valve lash should theoretically not change, and swapping buckets won't be necessary) send the cams into Kelford. Have them rework them to the specs we have listed here. Then they would be more "drop in."

 

Spoke to someone on IG who got in contact with kelford in Feb this year. he said they gave him no problem as far as making custom cams. Cost is about $1162 USD. I wonder if their contract expired with subzero?

 

Custom is probably different than non custom?
