I use a GoPro for wheeling, but wanted a cheap(er) one that I can leave in my truck. Leave a GoPro on the windshield and I'm asking for it. lol

This was filmed with my Sony HDR-CX230 last year from inside my other vehicle, a time lapse tour of my area Charleston, SC Buy if you are going to film, you also need a good video editor like Sony Vegas Movie Studio

Well my G1W-CB just crapped on me after 6 months or so. Can't say I'm surprised at $50 something. Guess I will just have to pony up for something more reliable.

I've had mine for over a year and it's worked fine for me.

    :fingerscrossed:

I'm still looking at running a rear facing cam that uses and on/off switch to power both.

It just started getting cold and I think that might have had something to do with it.

The 2 times I take my dash cam down ... I see super weird stuff.

My problem is ... I am concerned that someone will break out my windows in a parking lot if I leave my GoPro visible.

And it is a hassle to mount & remove it each time I get in & out of the truck ...and crooks could see me remove when I stop too.

Any suggestions on this problem ... what do you guys do ??

I just started using a Viofo A119 dash cam and so far so good. I'll try and post a video.

Yeah I think it's hit or miss with these. Some last a while, some don't. I sold mine to a friend whom hasn't had issues with his, yet. I bought an ausdom one and it's lasted through the summer. Fell off once but no damage. Pretty happy with it. At first I thought it wasn't worth it upgrading from the g1w, but now that I hear from you I'm glad I did. For now. Haven't owned it for more than a few months so we'll see. Just glad it held up to the summer heat here. Kinda strange that you mention cold being the culprit. Probably just coincidence. Usually it's the heat that fries em.

These sub 100$ cams do seem to have a limited lifespan. Hot sun and constantly cycling the battery. Some have suggested that capacitor models will outlast battery ones. I bought mine at costco and have returned one after 6 months.

Only thing I can suggest, is to use a cheaper alternative. And leave in there. Or get one that's a little more inconspicuous. Like the "tube" looking ones. And to route the wire out of view. Imo, a go pro is much more likely to entice a crook than a dash cam. I know you Probly want to use it since you have it, but I'd save it for it's intended use as an "action" cam or whatever they're referred to. I'd say even an expensive dash cam is gonna be less enticing than a go pro. Because people know less about good quality dash cams and automatically think that a go pro is gonna be worth it.

From what I've read the G1W has a suggested operating temp between 0°C to 65°C. Given that it was around 30° F the last couple of nights and it tends to freeze on the welcome screen in the cold I imagine that is why it was stuck. I just tried it again on my PC and it was working but it had been inside for hours warming up. So lets hope it continues to function. I did notice two open ended wires on the inside when I opened it up, not sure what that's about. From now on I guess I'll have to bring it in at night, inconvenient but Winter is Coming.

...^^^... Thanks for the good advice ... I have a cheaper dash cam ... my concern is any crack head that stupid will quickly pop a window for a dollar bill on the seat.

I have to try to figure a way to disguise it or make a (faster & easier) super quick disconnect cam mount ...

    Thanks

I bought one of those rearview mirror dashcams for about 33 bucks 2 years ago and it's been going strong ever since. The cig outlet connector was garbage so I just wired it directly under my dash. This thing has performed very well. Just search gearbest.com for "rearview dashcam"

Update : the dash cam is no longer the same and isn't functioning properly. Lots of video lag and pixeling on the mini screen. Not sure about the video but it's not looking to promising. I think I'm going to try Street Guardian as I hear good things.

My KDLINKS DX-2 should arrive today. I chose this one because it has a normal screw type connector found on normal cameras. I wanted something I could use in the 2017 Tacoma GoPro mount. Bestbuy sells an adapter to make this look seamless. I chose the DX-2 because it comes with a secondary camera for the rear. Couple this with a 128GB SD card and I should be able to document how poor Denver drivers are. For theft prevention, I'll just tilt the camera up when not in use, then hope for the best.

I have the previous model A119 and like it. I've been using it for a few months now.
