Damn! I'm sure glad I posted that I was going. Extremely grateful for the heads up that would have been very disappointing. Guess were gonna head to Wheeler Lake! Anyone done this trail?

From the videos I saw it looks like a pretty narly trail. I have a 3'' lift with full skids and rock sliders, I would think I'd be just fine. I am worried about dropping the rear end on a rock though...

Some recently told me there is mine/ ghost town up by Moffat Tunnel/ Jamestown. Guess it's a short hike from the 4x4 trail.

Anyone have more info on this?

Er... the tunnel and Jamestown are kinda far apart, and I'm sure there's lots of 'ghost towns' and mines in between/in the area. As far as near the Tunnel, and more specifically the Rollins/Jenny Creek trail, I'm not aware of any structures though there might be some town sites or tailings piles. All the trestles and structures and actual town sites I know of are only accessible from the west side (ie, Corona at the top, the trestle on the way up, and the trestles that are on the east side of the ridge but still west of the tunnel). I know there's another trail that goes up south of the tunnel and I'm not sure what's off that. Any kind of definition for 'short' hike, or a name for the place they mentioned? There's also the West Magnolia trail that's closer to the highway near Rollinsville, and that's got some mine stuff off it.

Check out the montezuma area near Keystone ski resort- anything from mellow trails like Peru creek to a little more difficult like the Sts John/deer creek loop. You could also link Webster pass from the 285 side. Lots of cool mining structures in that area.

can follow the entire dragon gilsonite vein from dragon to bonanza, loads of ghost towns along the route as they gradualy moved along the vein as they mined it. it shorts but a cool trip. the vein is about 20 feet wide and goes down hundred feet or so at some points. can access the main road to dragon in Rangely Co where i live.

I ran it in my 1st gen with sliders and skids. You will definitely scrape the sliders and skids even with the best lines but it is doable. I wouldn't recommend going alone because there are a couple spots where you could get stuck.

edit: the old mining structure is at the beginning of the trail a couple hundred feet up from the bottom. You can easily make it in a factory SUV, there was a guy in a Lexus blocking us from going up when I ran the trail. The rest of the trail is difficult though.
