Dorman PCV any good??

I am going thru dealing with EVAP issues

Anyone have experience using the Dorman, replacement purge valves??

 

no good. Just get dealer parts. I bought after market and everything didn't fit well.

 

PCV valves are not purge valves. they're merely check valves that allow any cylinder blowby to escape the engine and recirculate through the intake. what evap issues are you having?

 

I am probably mixing 2 parts names and referring to the purge valve on the canister?

After even a 1/2 tank fill-up truck won't start without pumping the gas pedal.

Got P0441, P0442 and P0446

 

Sorry, bud. I would need to see your truck to figure out what's wrong with it. If you want, you can test the 2 valves on your own. Get a piece of 1/8th inch vacuum line, a 9 volt battery, and . take off the 2 valves and give power to each valve. they only have 2 connections and it doesn't really matter what polarity you use, a 9 volt wont damage it. at the same time ,you blow air through the vacuum tube and see if the: 1) purge valve is allowing air to pass through when given power. 2) switching ports on the vacuum switching valve. So long as those 2 are doing their job, the issue is not p0446 or probably even p0442.

I order to test for 0441, you have to open the glove box and remove the lining to access the computer and test 2 wires for voltage with a multimeter.

Can I get more details on you truck so I can see if I can find the wiring schematics for you?

 

I have an '03 3.4L

I did test the one under the hood...heard the clicking of the switch, but, did not put a spare line on it to see how air moved thru it

I will get to both and see what happens. Gonna be a while until I get to the one on the canister

Never heard of anything under the glove box to test for P0441??

 

p0441 is a circuit malfunction. I just had it. essentially your pressure sensor may be going haywire and the only way to test the connection is to test 2 wires connected to the computer. is it auto or manual?

 

uh oh.... My pressure sensor was under the hood so it was easy for me to test. you may have another issue........ either way, volt check those 2 wires on the ECU hopefully it's in that range

ok so pin out E8 #11 and 24 are the ones you want to test. this will tell you if, with ignition on and engine off, the pressure sensor is operating at nominal voltages. mine was 0 when I tested these pins on mine and when i disconnected the sensor the 2 pins jumped to 5v. so I ordered a used part, cause I couldn't find a new one, replaced it, got the 3.4 or so volts and 3 10 minute drives later my check engine turned off.


the codes are still there btw.. but since everything is checking out theyre still in a sort of self test phase and will disappear on their own. if they don't disappear after a few weeks, clear the codes and re-run the emission rediness tests. . i did this about 3 weeks ago but i drive maybe 7 miles a week.

Same codes I'm getting on my 03. This is good info to have.
I have a new vacuum switch valve but might also try the gas cap before looking into these other possibilities.
