Learning AR's a bit.I am stuck between a DI AR and a piston AR.I guna shoot it suppressed most of the time.I been looking at a Wilson combat piston AR that I fell in love with for $1800.I talked to a buddy and he informed me about "piston pop".and to go the DI route...What do you all think?

Start at 5:38. Consider 300BLK for a really quiet rifle if you're going the AR route. Suppressed 300BLK starts at 9:00

Yeah, don't expect much suppressed & you won't be let down. 5.56/.223 isn't the best round for suppression. You can take the edge off but at those speeds it's still going to be pretty loud.

Piston is really the way to go for running any type of suppressor. It's way cleaner and way cooler on your bolt. LWRC has the piston rifle figured out.

I don't have anything piston but my friend does and never any issues. I agree w/ @rmepilot about looking at noveske for anything they have. Would also recommend mid length barrel but that's my opinion. I understand that they are less susceptible to gas port erosion than std length. This can happen over thousands of rounds though.

Honestly I don't even know what that is. It maybe because my LWRC comes with an adjustable gas block. But if some one can explain it I'll let you know.

    ...stuff
i build both, but i found that the piston rifles have less pop/recoil than DI. DI rifles I have to work at the balance, piston practically balance themselves

nice stick, as already said, piston for regular suppressor work. Your nose, face and lungs will thank you. You will need to run more lube more often (fireclean) due to the amount of poop that comes back, that will increase stuff going into your face. The piston vents excess gas further down the line away from your face. If no suppressor - then what ever turns your crank. with suppressor, then piston.

He had me sole on a 300 bulk sbr.....I go back and forth on doing a SBR....Im leaning towards a 300 if I do. I think BCM, DD and Spikes all have 300 bulk uppers available.

go for it mate....Our laws up here don't care about SBR's in the AR world. They are restricted (requiring a certain class and can only be shot at ranges) regardless of BBL length. I have 3 and a MK12 MOD1 clone. There will ALWAYS be an SBR in my repertoire.

Piston AR's are nice, but I ended up selling mine. Stuck with DI due to commonality and ease of obtaining Mil-Spec parts. Piston driven parts are usually proprietary, but stays cleaner and keeps the sting out of your eyes as the black soot stays forward. I've got several DI rifles that go through a few classes without cleaning, but that's about 1k + rounds, not that much.

These other state guys know more about the suppressors than I. Since I'm in Cali, I can't touch that stuff.

I have a 16" LWRC upper....its nice shoots well, but I have a bug that wants a SBR now. The complaint of the LWRC is the weight. Its very front heavy.

That said, I never get to shoot as often as I like so the investment into a sbr+can is most likely a waste, but well see. I am leaning towards a 300 sbr.

Yeah, the piston/ gas block forward weight becomes an issue for some after a few hours of having it slung over your shoulder. Guy I sold mine to doesn't work out and complained about it. I told him to make it heavier with a larger stock to balance it. The suppressor probably won't make it any lighter up front. LOL. SBR would definitely help though. But if you don't shoot enough, save your money for ammo. Can't ever have enough of that to practice and play with.

I have an MRP which I have run with both Piston and DGI set ups. The only time I cleaned was at the end of the year of competing or when we got pissed on. You are right that the front end is heavier due to the Gas system parts though.
