Not that I want to be a pain, but there is a sticker on that trailer that says not to exceed 55 MPH when towing.. Just FYI...

Haha I dunno, I disagree. I find the truck pretty comfortable on long trips. It just takes less work to drive. The steering isn't as touchy, I don't have to worry about dodging potholes, I can see past traffic, I can hear the radio, it has bluetooth integration & satellite radio, usable cupholders, etc.

Don't get me wrong, the S4 is a full stage III+ build and tons of fun, but I much prefer ripping around on shorter trips than droning along on the highway for hours.

    lol k.

while on the subject of towing, i have an aftermarket hitch (frame mounted) with a flat four pin plug. can i use a 4 pin to 7 pin adapter (trailer has 7 pin) without installing the e-brake wires, as long as i keep the weights reasonable. it's a small enclosed trailer, that has the 7 pin plug. I assume the signal and brake lights will work which is all i need.

Put the car on backwards so the engine weight is more towards the rear

Loading a trailer with all the weight at the rear is a good way to wind up on the evening news.

Dont know if I should bother replying to this or not... as long as you have proper tongue weight it dosnt matter that the bulk is above the wheels

Of course, but I had legitimate concerns that it wouldn't have the proper tongue weight. The S4 is very nose-heavy and I didn't have the time/equipment to measure the weight in a bunch of different positions. Nose-forward was the safest option.

I'm looking at the 2016 taco 4wd sr5 with towing package. From what I've read it seems to have more hp and beefed up frame. The towing package has tranny cooler and heavy duty battery, alternator and suspension. Do you know if it would need a larger after market tranny cooler and better leafs? Thanks for your help.

I was wondering about that in the sense that if the tongue weight of the camper is say 500 lb (75% of the 650 lb. max.) and the tow vehicle (say a 2016 taco 4wd with tow package) only has driver and one passenger with little else maybe a WDH is not necessary? Maybe not even desirable?

Nope, that would not be true. 500lb tongue weight would equate to a camper ~4,000lbs. WDH's should (generally) be used when trailer weight is over half the GVWR of the tow vehicle...at least that's what I've read.

Towing in the midwest in a whole different ball game than towing in the Rockies. I'd have no qualms towing a 5,000 lb trailer in Flordia. Going over the I70 pass would be another thing.

My 2007 pulled the beetle just fine from Winnipeg to Montreal. Engine was in the box of the truck.

I've been towing for decades. Had some near death experiences when i was young and stupid. I don't take chances anymore. I must say my 13 DCLB Sport tows very well. I gave up buying steel trailers. I spent alot of money for a great truck, why should I chince out on a cheap trailer? Weight is weight. I had a 17.5 foot Featherlite for 15 years. Last year I sold it for 100% of what I had in it. Can't beat that, so I bought another Featherlite only this time I went to the longer, heavier duty, 20 footer. Add the tongue and the the length of the long bed Tacoma and this turns into one heck of a long rig. Recently just did a 1,000 mile trip picking up my friends 68 Plymouth Barracuda. Towed great! 2100 lb for the trailer with straps, tools and winch, and then add 3800 for the car. Let's round it off to 6,000. I balance the car on the trailer so I have a few hundred pounds of tongue weight. Add good and I mean REAL GOOD Electric Brakes and you have a safe tow.
