What gear oil did you go with??

I'm looking at Amsoil gear and on the Amsoil website is says with the MT my rear diff needs 6.1qts but the manual says 4 qts...??

I thinking of using the severe-gear 75w-90 in the diffs (front and rear) and thinking about using the same thing in the manual tranny - anyone think I should use the standard 75w90 GL-4 oil for the transmission instead.

There's the standard manual trans and diff fluid GL-4 from Amsoil and the heavy duty severe-gear which is GL-5 75w90 which is what the manual says to use in the tranny... any reason for NOT just using the Severe-gear stuff in the diffs AND the manual trans??

I used the Redline MT-90 in my transmission. I can't say that it's better or worse than anything else, but a lot of people use it.

The rear differential definitely doesn't hold 6 quarts.

Maybe the 6.1qts is front + rear?

I was thinking about changing to amsoil as well but haven't yet.

rear diff takes a hair over 4, front takes a little under 2. I used not quite 6 quarts

Not sure where you're looking on Amsoil's site but they are claiming 8 pints for MT rear differential.

The 6.1 is listed on some configurations for some reason, along side an 8 pint recommendation so that's a bit confusing, but in all cases, they are pints, not quarts.

Damn-it... that gosh darn reading comprehension thing again.... jeeez! Yer right pints not qts...

    Thanks for clarifying.

Anyone see a problem with just going straight up 75w90 all around (front/rear diffs & MT)??

I'm thinking going with the severe-gear goo....?

Nah I just had them replace the entire rear diff. I guess the new one came with fresh fluid. It's howling now too so I'll probably be in to get a new "fluid" change soon.

I believe that both the transmission and rear differential are 24mm sockets. I've not done the front, but 10mm hex sounds right compared to other Toyotas trucks that I've done in the past.

Are these differentials mechanically limited slip, or electronic via abs only?

My 2015 calls for 75W-85 in the diffs, there is not much out there to pick from.

I used Super Tech 80w90 from Wal Mart. Rear diff took almost all of the gallon jug. I used it for flushing fluid to get the break in metal out. Only cost $13/gal.
Fuel economy is still great. I may keep using it. Diff is nice and quiet.

I used Amsoil GL4 in the trans. Seems to shift the same as OEM fluid.

Hey guys! I tried to change my rear diff oil and I could open the freaking bolt... I spent around half hour under the truck trying and trying and nothing... that bolt is like welded to the freaking diff....

I came from job and tryed to do it and nothing... the diff wasn't that hot... I could touch it and leave my hand on it..

So what I'm hoping is that the entire diff was to hot now after a 1 hour drive and that shit was expanded and that's why I couldn't open it... I'm going to try tomorrow morning to see...

Any thoughts?? Am I the only one???

Ps: I'm sure I was unscrewing.. or trying to haha

Try spraying the Bolts with some PB Blaster the night before, and DEFINITELY loosen the Fill Plug prior to the Drain Plug.

I have an 18" section of galvanized steel pipe that I can slip over a standard socket wrench to lengthen it and add leverage. I couldn't get the either the drain or fill bolts off without it but with it, it took very little effort.
