If it were me, I would ask for a full refund on the extended warranty. Pro rated refund is not acceptable, in exchange I would ask for the same warranty to be purchased by the dealership ats of date of oil change or agreement. I would accept nothing less and expect no more.

I seriously doubt any major damage occured, and a 7 year warranty period should cover anything that may result if something did happen to accelerate a potential problem.

Your cylinder walls and bearing journals do not magically lose all of their lubrication by simply removing the oil and starting the engine. If damage did occur it would likely have been the restarting of the engine and driving back to the dealership rather than getting a dealership paid for tow. Not blaming the OP, just stating my opinion.

There's a reason you don't see the Slick 50 commercials on TV anymore, it was a gimmick.

Ask for a full refund on your extended warranty, should get you a little over 2k and with a complimentary extended warranty you will be covered in the unlikely event something arises as a direct result. At that point it won't matter and would likely never be proven so.

    Edit to add.....

Do not expect to get the 2k for extended warranty refund in your pocket. If it was included in the original financing and you have not refinanced/paid off the truck it will go directly to your lender and applied to the principle.

If they argue on a full reimbursement tell them you bought an extended warranty for peace of mind, due to their negligence you no longer have that peace of mind and having not used it prior feel no need to have it or use it for a potential issue they may have created.

Update: got an email from the service manager apologizing for the delay asking for my phone number so he can call me tomorrow.
. This made me laugh, thank you.

Make sure whatever is offered you get in writing, the "phone is easier" tactic keeps things "He said/She said".

Not saying that is the case, just ask for all correspondence to be made in writing as well.

Its ot only unreasonable, its a fantasy. If his original motor didnt have a lifetime warranty there is no case law that would demand they give him one now.

That's not an unreasonable request at all. Toyota failed to properly service the engine and admitted to it. The lack of oil almost certainly caused accelerate damage wear which otherwise would not have occurred. It's not unreasonable to ask that Toyota covers any expenses that come up in the future due to their error. They might counter with something different, maybe 100,000 mile or something, but it doesn't hurt to request it.

When you pay for preventative maintenance, and they in turn negligently damage your vehicle, you can (and should) expect them to own their mistake.

If it was truly no harm, no foul; the warranty will cost Toyota very little. If they damaged the motor, then it will cost them exactly what it should.

Per thread rules, you now have to list why you do it. Be sure to specify how easy it is, the fact that no one will take care of your truck like you do, that you want it done right, etc.

Hahaha. The filter is on top of the engine! I pretty much have to do it myself.

Lay off him about changing his own oil.. Start your own thread about why you should change your own oil.

The point is, the dealer fucked up.

Agreed. I change my own because I save money and I can do it when ever. If money wasn't a issue dealer/garage would most definitely be doing it lol

Do you change your own oil? It's very unclear since you've only posted it numerous times.

I don't change my own oil anymore... coz I'm old, slow, sore, and lazy. Which has nothing to do with this thread.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
After 2 dealer's - big oil change problems (Subaru & Toyota) ... I only trust one dealer to change oil and/or service my vehicle (Gwinnett Place Honda) and GPH can't service Tacoma's.

So, it actually costs me more to change my own oil ... but I have the peace of mind in doing it.

if you have a dealer that you can really trust ... I would go there in a heartbeat.

PS ...OP, your dealer should make this right with you.
