Pretty good on my Texas history, especially since my roots go back to the founders of the Great State of Texas! Actually did my roots, using Ancestry, and did the DNA test as well.

I'm American as Apple Pie! All the way back to the first colonies. If you're ever in Corpus, go to the water front and you'll see a statue of my Great (X8) Grandfather. He founded the South West.

I'm also a Daughter of the American Revolution!

Daughters of the War of 1812.

Daughters of Colonial Antebellum Bench and Bar

    First Families of Texas

    Descendants of Texas Rangers.

    Daughters of Republic of Texas.

Lots of Texas history. My Great Grandfather Captain Jack, Texas Ranger, has a very colorful past to say the least.

We plan on retiring in Texas, actually we are currently look'n at properties!

Really like the Canyon Lake area. Plus San Antonio or San Marcos is only 30+ minutes away!

If I ever need to into the big city! That will rarely happen, prefer the country life.

That's a nice area. San Antonio is massive, but has a ton of everything. Wimberly has been flooded out twice (including broken bridges), so be careful where you are in the 100 year flood plain.

    High ground.

Groene is cool. That's a nice area. Good thing gas is cheap, because you'll be doing some driving!

Austin has gotten expensive lately with all the California transplants. It's a lot less weird than it used to be, because weird doesn't pull down enough money to make rent.

Ya I (we) like the Hill Country. Plenty of high ground, lots or acreage, and you only fire a warning shot if you're polite.

Once retire not much driving needed.

My husband is already retired, use to fill his tank $50/$60 a week.

Now he fills his tank once every three months or so. LOL.

It wasn't so bad for me either back when I was younger and you needed to make the extra cash to pay for first time mortgage, being able to buy nice vehicles, and various hobbies. I actually liked what I did (Machine Operator). And then I got older....LOL
I agree...its extremely hard to get appointments in when you work day shift. Working 2nd shift was great for that!! Now? I absolutely hate using vacation days for errands/To-do list. Although....you can't avoid it. I'd rather save my vacation days for fun things!!

I wouldn't be able to do what I do now (big pay cut) if it wasn't for my husbands job. He moved up in his company - which took the financial pressures off. I enjoy what I do now aside from the BS that other people create for me....typical for this company and people in general. LOL I was recently promoted, so the pay cut is getting smaller. Hmmm....when is the magical age for early retirement? LOL

    13 hour Shift......that's Frigg'n Insane

How productive are employees when they must be dead tired working such long hours.

Also I'd think Safety would be an issue.

The more tired someone is the more likely to make a mistake.

My husband said: The earlier you Retire the Better

Life really really starts flying by the older you get.

Seriously, think about it, if you retire at say 65; OMG really, how many good healthy years do you have left in the tank?

    My husband retired at 55

He will tell you: BEST THING I EVER DID

It's the kind of field I'm in. It happens. There's lots of periods of inactivity too.
I usually work an 8 hour shift, but they needed someone to carry over on day today. I can't say no to OT $$$! Lol

I hear ya, get it while you can. My hubby worked nites for 25+ yrs, worked as much OT as possible. Put an extra $500 a month on the mortgage, every single month, starting with the first month.

Ten years, 122 payments later, the house was Paid in Full. The $500 didn't effect anything because he made way more than that from the OT.

End result of all that money, $500 every month, going directly to the principle: It Saved Us $170,000.00 in Interest. That's $170,000.00 WE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY TO THE BANK!!!!!!

We always did the same thing with our cars. $50 - $100 extra a month. Result: Usually saved around 2-3K in interest. Plus the cars would end up paid off in two yrs instead of 4!!!!!!

AND MAX OUT YOUR RETIREMENT PLANS

NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT - EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT

You'll get use to it and adjust your spending accordingly.

LASTLY, NEVER EVER BORROW FROM YOUR RETIREMENT PLAN

Albert Einstein once said: The average person just doesn't realize the Power of Compoundimg Interest

Follow these words of wisdom and when you start reaching retirement age YOU WILL THANK ME

Think about this for a second. You retire and your retirement plan is Actually Making more Money in Interest than you were Making Annually.

Believe me, if you max out your contribution, by the time you're ready to retire that's Exactly what will happen!

Amen!!! Some GREAT advice!! We do the same!! You spend your younger years busting your ass, working OT, working your way up the ladder.....things eventually pay off if you're responsible with your $$.

We paid off our first house in 12 years. After paying off the house - we started planning a complete kitchen remodel. When we realized how $$ the remodel was gonna cost - We decided to buy another house instead!!! LOL. For the two of us....its a HUGE house with large kitchen (everything we wanted) and we love it!!
Granted - we have a mortgage again and plan on paying this off early as well. By the time we're ready to move out of this house - it will become our 'investment' and part of our 'retirement' funds. :).

Granted.... we don't have any kids - which makes all of this a whole lot easier. I totally understand the difficulty folks have with having kids. That fine line between busting your ass/OT and needing time to spend with your kids. Majority of people can't *get ahead*.

    Congrats!

I (we) also recommend gett'n a credit card that has a "Cash Rewards/Dividend Rewards"

What that means is if you pay your bill each month in full, and you ALWAYS SHOULD, you earn Cash Back. Anywhere from 2 - 5% back on EVERY PURCHASE MADE.

Once it starts to get close to $300.00, that's the max you can accumulate on most cards, you Cash-in your dollars. So what happens next is they mail you a check or if your prefer a preloaded card. I always go for the Check, and head straight to the bank to cash it.

So what does all this mean, well for us, my hubby gets approx $600.00 a year and I average about $500.00 each year.

Bottom Line: THEY ARE PAYING US OVER A GRAND EACH YEAR TO USE THEIR CARDS

AND WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR DECADES NOW!!!

We have never ever paid one penny in interest or fees! They pay us!

So we use our cards for everything, it's like buying stuff on sale because we get 2-5% off each purchase!

    WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

Hmm, maybe you should give it a try...... Free Money Honey!

Bingo!! We already do that...... Amazon Card / Amazon Prime and it gets paid off every month. We buy everything off Amazon!

Be Frugal with your $$ - I'll go to the mall and shop around for shoes and clothes - trying stuff on to make sure it fits. I'll then shop on Amazon for the exact same item and find it much cheaper on Amazon. In fact, just the other day - I found a pair of sneakers that I liked. They were $60 in the store (on sale!!). I found the exact shoe in the size I needed for $35 on Amazon. :)

But how much did you have to spend just to get $600?
The fact is, youre still having to spend. It's not free money.
