so I was driving on the highway in my 2002 5spd Tacoma TRD SR5 3.4L in cruise control. I was doing 65 and went to accelerate (using the cc lever) to about 70mph. I figured I held the lever to long when I got to 75mph so I went to tap the brake to slow down... nothing. I hit the button on the cc lever to turn it off... nothing. After messing with the brake and the lever for about 2 minutes and panicking I figured it wasn't gonna turn off. I eventually had to turn my hazards on and ride the breaks to a complete stop to get the car to stall out and die. I didnt use the cc the whole rest of the drive home in fear of it not stopping again and the wear it did on my truck having to break like that. I have no idea what happened and can't find anything on the web. I'm afraid too use my cruise control again, Anyone have experience with this?

Next time just put it in neutral and start coming to a stop. Or shut it off in neutral and restart in neutral.

You probably need to replace the cruise control switch. Easy job.

    Geez. Thats pretty scary.
I'm not even sure if its vacuum or cable assist. You might bump this up in the afternoon where more people will see it.
    Be carefull, for sure.

There should be 3 failsafes with the manual trans. 2 on the brake pedal and one on the clutch starter switch. Did you try and push the clutch in to disengage the cruise control?

Yeah when pressing the clutch, the engine just revved up like the throttle was stuck or something

Weird. It shouldnt have revved passed the rpm you were already in.
You might looks at the safety switch in the clutch as well. It should have cancelled out the cc. But so should the brakes and the actual switch itself.

Glad I never used these devices my Tacoma does not seem to have it.

Not sure why you did just not shut the ignition off and pull over but stalled the the truck with the Brakes

    **update**
Tried the CC out again today but at a much slower speed (35mph) and couldn't replicate the issue. The break and the clutch both cancelled the cc. Maybe I'll just avoid speeding up with the lever and contact a dealer until then
