I drove 400 miles round trip yesterday to pick up this Snugtop shell.

It's been sitting in a barn for who knows how long, and is completely filthy, but will clean up nicely. Apart from that, it is extremely nice. Features include frameless rear window, sliding sides with screens, carpeted headliner, and an interior light. It also has a large rubber gasket that seals the front glass of the shell to the back glass of the truck to keep dust out.

    To be done:
    Key
    Struts for the rear glass
    bed clamps
wire in brake and interior light

It feels so good to finally have a shell again. :bananadance:

I guess I should note how much better my dakars ride with this little bit of extra weight. Night and day difference. The "hop" I was experiencing over bumps is gone. Woo-hoo!

I finally had the chance to measure a tank for gas mileage that was mostly (+/-75%) hwy miles. Not too bad. :)

Picked up some hardware for the shell. Should be good as new now.

I got to shell cleaned up, and installed the new hardware. Underneath all the dirt was perfectly color matched paint.

I didn't notice this until the day after I bought it. :anonymous: I'll blame it on the 200 mile drive, and the lack of light when I was looking it over. Ha ha. This shell doesn't have front glass. Instead, it has a large rubber gasket that surrounds the rear glass of the truck, sealing out the elements (hopefully). I noticed the gasket, but thought it was just to keep dust off the glass. It looks like it will keep the water out, but only time will tell.

Yes, I thought about that. The rain coming in tomorrow should tell me what I need to know.

Just looking at it, I think it's going to be fine.

You mean you had a shell and got rid of it? :smack:

I know! I regret it every time I see a shell. I really needed new tires and had no money since I was working a minimum wage job at the time. Of course 2 years later I'm wanting another one

We had a gasket thing years ago on my grandpa's truck. Made it nice to open the sliding rear glass on the truck and pass things to camper without letting in rain or snow.

Your truck has a solid glass? It doesn't slide at all?

You could have an unfortunate hammer related accident to make the rear glass less solid.
