I am a current owner of a Subaru, and have always had them. Recently I bought a travel trailer and towed it around a little... and realized it's time to sell the forester and get into something that fits my life style and towing needs.
I'm currently located in South Carolina and will be moving to Maine in 2 years. So defiantly 4x4- but I'm having a hard time finding a used Tacoma that isn't close to a new one in price, with some of the things I'm looking for. Soooooooo I'm hoping to get some help with a purchase and maybe even find one on here!

    Thanks!

Myrtle beach. Are you in this area?

And what do you guys think of the 2nd gen (maybe I can find one for like $18-22k with 60-80k miles) vs a price of 28-31k out the door for a new 3rd gen?

Is the 3rd gen that much better to be spending almost 50% more for that?

I know this is probably a loaded question... but I don't see many big changes.

Your question is loaded, lol! Plenty on here on TW that you can read on that topic. Opinions will vary.

I am in SC, just south of CLT.

Oh nice- not too far away sc2sc.
What do you like and dislike about your 2014? I was reading the 2nd gen didn't get many changes through out its life, not major at least.

I like that it is the end of a model run. I typically do not buy any new vehicle in its first or second year. 2015 was the last of thw second generation Tacomas.

Many are very happy with their 2016 third generation Tacomas, but there have been some new model issues, which you can easily find here on Tacoma World.

I tagged you on thw south carolina BS thread- feel free to jump on, anytime. Another person came on just a few weeks ago that is planning to buy a Tacoma.

Welcome to the madness I'm in the Florence area. I have a 15 but a good friend of mine has a 16. over all they are very similar trucks in ride and and comfort with the 16s having a different motor. I bought my 15 used vs a new 16 because I got a lot more truck for the money.

How did you get allot more truck for the money? Curious how much less you paid than new? I mean for example most 1-2 year old tacos are close or the same prices as new. It's really good to know this investment will hold its value... but from a shopping point of view I don't know what angle to take.
I'm thinking this weekend I'll go drive to Toyota and see what they can work me up (I went to the south east Toyota build your own website). Also some people on here are saying they paid 3-4K less than sticker price. I wonder if I can do that trick too...

For my 4x4 TRD OR I paid 30 with taxes and tags. I was looking at an SR5 pre runner (2wd) I was in the 31-32 range out the door and 4x4 was closer to 32-34 and the TRD access cabs were quite a bit more. Granted this was in February and the dealer I bought the truck from was selling them faster then they could get them.

Okay I see what you were saying. I do wonder if the supply has caught up enough to help bargain on price. If your in Florence you must have gone to Columbia?
And if you know of anyone selling a taco 4x4, double cab (I'm learning the terms, but the big one with 4 full doors), auto, and not lifted or modified- I would really appreciate it.
I've been keeping an eye out on the for sale classifieds here, Craigslist, and some online searching too. But every time I see their asking price I just wonder what the dealer has available for pricing...
But soon I'll know that answer.

I bought in Florence and didn't have the luxury of shopping around at the time I needed a new truck
