Looking to rebuild and regear a trd elocker axel and need to know if it's 27 or 29 spline? I'm not sure, everything I read I seen 27,29 and 30. And they only offer the kits in 27 and 29 so kinda lost. Also recommendation on the better 529 gear sets? Something that will last and not have to worry about replacing for a while. 33 or 35" tires, light wheeling, nothing extreme. Was looking at nitro and Yukon but I don't know much about gears. Looks to be around $500 for gears and the rebuild kit. Thanks for the help.

I found this web-site, that might clear it up for you. It contains this text:

"A factory option on 3rd Gen. 4Runners, Tacoma 4x4's, and Tacoma PreRunner 4x2's is an
electric locking rear differential. This diff is a 4-pinon design based on the Turbo/V6 8" diff
and uses the same gear sets and bearings (except for the large bearing near the locking mechanism).
    - 30 spline pinion on OEM gears, swap pinion flange to 27 spline to use aftermarket gears "

Are you confusing AXLE splines with PINION splines?

I don't know honestly. I just know I need a rebuild kit for the 3rd with this new axle. Was looking at these and that's why I asked.

if i remember correctly, 02-04 elocker is 30 spline, before that is 27spline. so the only thing that will matter is if your flange will bolt up, if it doesnt you get the correct one.

Well where does the 29 come from then?? Thanks for the help. I'm going to try and find one that's the same year as mine which is a 99, give or take a year. Preferably from a tacoma 4x4 so the shock mounts and everything else are exactly the same. I'm not sure on the 4runners and prerunners. From sounds and looks of it though I'll need the 27 then.

wait, it sounded like you already have the axle, if thats not the case, then you will need to wait to get that axle in hand and check the spline count.
