I understand that, so then is it even worth worrying about if you can get the expected service out of it. 250K ? I would think not.
I don't have the issue btw.

Then I'm definitely going to get a 2017 4 runner next August before it's unibody, has a nutless van motor, and pos Trans designed for the 159 hp 4 cylinder.

Can someone explain to me what "flare" means in regards to transmission? This term is new to me. Thx

Have you had the fluid level checked? Mine has flared once when cold and I get the reverse to drive hesitation. I'm going to do the reflash and check the fluid level

Assuming they mean revs up as its in between shifts. Like having your foot on the gas when shifting a manual trans with the clutch disengaged

Yeah, basically when it shifts the pressure should be high enough to engage and hold the next gear, it just doesn't engage temporarily and the engine revs like it's in neutral until pressure builds and it grabs the gear.

OME, sliders, dents, hail damage, soiled armrest. Lightbulbs.
My fantasy world: 4Runner gets the 3.5L, but due to weight and needing to keep up with speedy competition, Toyota decides to add a mild turbo. Then TRD offers it for the Taco with the appropriate ECU changes. Yum?

Be sure to let us know when your new transmission exhibits the same symptoms.

Watch the tach when the 4th gear tries to engage. This is my truck.

Yo bradwhitenikki. Just want to say thanks for what you are doing. Posting about issues gets you harassed and beat on around here by people who consider themselves experts - but your time dealing with the issue (and giving updates) helps all of us in the long run.
