Loving the truck just skimmed through your build. So glad to see another 4cyl 5speed gettin out in the mountains. Quick question. sorry if the info is in here and I missed it but I noticed your on 315's with 4.88's. What kind of range are you getting till the low fuel light comes on? I recently did a trip with a buddy on 315's on his truck and his range was horrible. Granted he was a v6 double cab but he was regeared with 4.56's which I've read is similar to the 4 banger with 4.88's. I was pretty set on that setup until I saw his light was on and my truck was still above 1/4 tank.

It's depends on the amount of crawling I do. For example this weekend I drove 500km including two days in 4lo. I daily my truck I get 20mpg with the tent on 22mpg without. In July I did 2800 -3000km and was hitting 600km per tank consistently loaded to the tits. I regularly by pass fuel stops while my buddies in v6 trucks have to fuel every 400km

Awesome thank you. Yea I'm getting about 515km to a tank runnin a little after the light comes on but not really pushing it. I'm also running 33's with stock gears so I gotta drop a gear and really hammer on it to get up some larger hills.

I don't understand how you can be good on fuel like that! I'm running 265/70/16 tire, fairly light too and a shell and these days I hit +- 520 km before the light come on. You have a crazy setup on your truck and still do better than me!

People saying that 4cyl doesn't worth it are fools! o_O

Well the 4.88s and the 35s bring it close to stock ratio. I also never exceed 70mph.... my milage is falling off I need to do an oil change and spark plugs and air filter. But it's also winter now so it's to be expected

Keeping the speed down is the key! I can never do that so that's why I don't get the best. Still way better than the v6's I run with though.

hey mat you helped me with some advice before i'd like to pick your brain a little more. i've redone my suspension, and installed 1st gen tundra wheels with cooper 255/80/17's. truck is a 2.7 ac at and starting to look at armor and bumpers. a regear isn't in the plans do you have any suggestions on the bumpers and armor the truck will basically be set up for day trips no big overlanding and camping as health issues hamper the camping thanks chris

I would look into tube style or hybrid bumpers they'll be lighter but stronger than aluminium or go that way if you wanna spend the huge amount for aluminium. It's going to hurt your range no mater what, I always recommend sliders and Skids before bumpers because plastic is easy to replace rocker panels and diffs are not. I'm still working on making my truck more modular and easier to load.. it takes time and trips under your belt

Tons to do to the truck. thankfully I've got a bunch of stuff ordered already

    To do before 2018:
    Finish suspension front and rear
    Install winch
    Install lca Skids
    Install dual batteries with isolator
    Figure out an inverter solution
Install fridge/freezer and platform in the cab
Order and install prinsu roof rack
Modify rear bumper to hold fuel cans(this actually needs to happen asap for my MacKenzie trip in 2017)
    Get more fuel cans
    Create some sort of shower
    Install awning
    Arb big recovery bag
    Waterproof storage containers

This list will grow I'm sure of it. I'm also hoping to recruit a couple trucks or even just one to get in on this

It's been a long time coming. I bought my truck after getting hooked on overland journeys like home on the highway and desk to glory and have built up the truck to do what I hope is a nice balance between trail slayer and overland adventurer

Saw this lately, could be useful for you! Do you have an inverter installed in yet? I am considering one sometime to run a small microwave for the time i want to eat something else than sandwich on the jobsite lol was thinking of a 3000w wired under the passenger seat but damn those inverter are pricy!

I see that system doesn't have a tank does it use the side cubbies or something ? I'm gonna run an inverter I'll need to be able to charge my cordless impacts laptop etc not sure on the protocols for vhf in the states I want to be able to reprogram my vhf on the fly. I will put the fridge on its own switch and tie it into the blue sea fuse panel I also need to order and install lol

It does have a tank yes. I don't know why it is now shown on this forum. They posted on TW too but I didn't found it yesterday. It is the pump that is using the side cubby.

I don't know if you know much about inverters but I red a few articles but in french unfortunately so I cannot really share it with you... but there is 2 type and if you are going to run your electronics for a long period then you should take the quality one. It is in relation with the electronique wave from it. The quality one is a perfect wave like in your house plus and the other one is a near perfect wave. Wich is good but can reduce your electronics life on a long (very long) period.

Also be sure of the peak performance of your inverter to be able to keep your electronics running when an other one starts like your fridge compressor or the microwave. Better to have more watts from your inverter than not enough ;)
