Nice to be high up on senority so quick. I'm at the bottom of the totem pole right now, and will likely be that way for a long time. Turnover is very little here. I can see why it's as high as it is for you with the kind og shift bull shit. I'd take 3rd shift over 2nd any day though.

I'm on second shift, but I do feel comfortable on 3rd. Its such a different beast that not many people understand.
nights like that, I always loved. Hot tones none-stop, shit flyin left and right. Its the paperwork that makes the job suck. On Wednesday, I spent a total of 4 minutes available for service. From 1100-1800, I was non-stop typing and getting cases done. I needed a break, make a traffic stop, arrest the driver for suspended license. Go back, type, get out of the office and immediately pull over a DUI. Process her, and back to typing. But, the moments like that make it fun. Then moments like the high school girl that I had a come to Jesus moment with while she talked about committing suicide, and talking her into tears while I gave a little perspective on life (it was good tears, calm down) make the job fulfilling.

I spent my first two years on weekend graves and loved it. I just could never sleep successfully during the day.

Yeah I pretty much sleep from about 7 AM to 12PM or so...sometimes I can force myself to sleep longer, or when I'm on a long haul of night shifts I sleep until almost 3...but having to switch back and forth normally I get about 4-5 hours of sleep for night shift and then catch a nap usually 3-4 or so

sleep is my biggest issue with graveyard shift. I wish people, especially family, would understand not to call you and leave you the fuck alone, lol.
I've blacked out my room enough that I can sleep through if it's quite, but my apartment is right next to a major road. Sirens, and the pets also wake me up a few times a night.

Part of me wants to be back in the thick of shit, but unfortunately know that i'd end up with a heart attack by 40; and the desk job still sees some live ones and pays significantly more.

I have tint on my windows (keeps the heat out too because my window faces south), blinds of course, then eclipse blackout curtains that I velcrod up top and on the sides too. If I didn't velcro the sides a lot of light would still leak through. I got my curtains off resale pages on facebook - so they cost me like $10 for the 4 I have. they're like $15 each at walmart.

I don't kick in doors anymore, only behind the scenes stuff intel/investigative etc. nothing admirable but it pays the bills.

I use blackout roll up shades and room darkening curtains. I'm lucky if I get 5-6 hours a day then maybe 6-7 on off days

I use Reflectix (think industrial strength bubble wrap with aluminum foil on both sides) cut to size, and my wife made dark window quilts. What sucks is getting up to use the bathroom. Try to go fast and don't let the damn sunshine soak in.

My Mom put those in at her house. theyre awesome and easy to deal with when I have to stay there. Though they're pretty pricey in my book, lol.

I think that's the worst part. Thankfully not too much sun soaks in for my run to the bathroom.

Halfway through last night on. I will refrain from using the "Q" word; but so far, so good.

Aside from a 2 back to back noise complaints right when I came on, we've been quite. The kids are predictable enough I'm comfortable using that word, haha. Though some jackass has knocked over some barricades three times tonight, and we have no camera to point at it.

...again, quite and lame as hell, lol.

At this point in life, lame and quiet means easy money. We had a cell tower go down so our tracking devices temporarily went offline but it got fixed within a couple hours.

Couple hours of sleep then relaxing with a beer and the Patriots if little man lets me. glad we got the 4:25 game.
