Couple of grainy iphone photos of the completed lid. I'll be building the tent rack tonight. I am still waiting on gas struts and the weather stripping, but it's getting close.

Great work as usual Adam looks good, they really did miss it by just a hair on that paint . On a side note, what type/brand of brackets to you have for mounting you shovel an axe?

I was working Saturday in Moab for Jeep Safari but was able to make a little detour on the way down there on Friday. My 15 yr old son, Bjornn was with me so he did some driving and I took some pics since it was a beautiful afternoon.

First of all, I'd like to complement you sweet-ass trailer and mad-scientist/engineer planning and execution, not to mention your obvious welding talent (looks like it's held together so far, haha).

Anywho, I was wondering if that new lid you rigged up opens easily with the RTT on top. I'm sure it does, but I think I speak for everyone here when I say I'd love to see some action shots of that lid opening and closing with the RTT.

...It's more about just seeing more pics of the trailer, haha

    Thanks! :)
Yes the lid opens fine with a tent mounted. I don't have "action" pics at the moment but this is what I have. There are two 250lb gas struts for the lid. I only use one of them if the tent isn't mounted and add the second one when using the tent and it opens the lid easily.

Here's a completed shot after the inside of the lid was painted white and the seals were added.

@Box Rocket, Awesome build..... Been watching this for a while now. I started buying parts for my own build. Next on the list is a axle. Do you remember how wide your axle is (I'm going same dimensions)? Also if you were to do things over is there anything you would do different? Thx

My axle is 64" wide WMS-WMS.

As time has gone there are a few small things I'd maybe change, but most of those things are just personal preferences that can be different for everyone. One thing I'd probably do though is use some longer springs. The trailer springs have worked just fine and I've not really had any complaints but I think it would perform better with longer springs.

I would love it if the whole thing was made from aluminum instead of steel just to keep the weight down, but that wasn't practical for me building it myself. Overall, Im pretty happy with it.

i love your telescoping rack (appears you no longer use)

    4 50lb struts

did you make your own "telescoping" channel? google seems to yield some expensive results for telescoping and much of which has multiple stages

was pulling it back down ever an issue? consider a winch of any sort?

Damn.....would love to build one just like it but who am I kidding!! But I can see myself starting with one of these...Morris Mule.Morris Mule.jpg

Edit: Very cool build and it shows that you don't need something super fancy, meaning expensive, to enjoy traveling and the great outdoors.

I built the telescoping rack. Kept it simple with some square tube the slides into larger square tube.
The whole rack including the struts cost me less than $100.
