There'a another way to look at the grinding of material off brake calipers that I haven't seen mentioned on this thread. If the brakes failed in a accident in which peolpe were hurt or killed and an investigation was done on the cause it could come back to bite you in the ass. Chances are it won't happen but why take a chance? Like mentioned earlier hairline cracks caused from stress/fatigue can happen...

so i shaved both of them down and im happy as hell but i do not recommend doing this only for the fact that i am covered in metal slivers. they are in my face, fingers, palms, wrists, neck, and nose..... good thing i wore glasses....

i even think i breathed in metal slivers....

Your thread helped me out, but i had to grind like a little over 1/8" of material, and run a 1/4" wheel spacer with longer studs. But i only did one side caliper still running the 1.5" wheel spacers. Now reading this thread makes me want to probably get some different wheels that dont rub, and switch out my caliper "i have spares".
Currently got 16x7" Eagle Alloy 058 4 1/4" Backspace, and +8mm Offset. What wheel backspace wont rub? 3.75 ? or 4"? And depending on wheel style too,

just to test to make sure your calipers are good, here is what i did. go to a DESERTED paved road, go about 45 MPH and slam on the brakes as hard as you possibly can. this will put the brakes to their max potential to make sure they still hold up. you shouldnt have any issues

i think you will be just fine. calipers are meant to hold immense pressure and you didnt take off that much. if it makes you feel better though, you can change your calipers out and change wheels. its up to you, not me

Well I installed my new wheels and drove about 50 feet yesterday resulting in my calipers digging about a 1/8th inch ring around the inside of my wheels in two spots. I'm thinking with a little grinding on the calipers along with the space they created on my brand new wheels I should be ready to go. Reallyyyy don't want to run spacers as I have my Bilsteins maxed out and I'm only barely clearing my 33s.
