@GuyGadois the point above are worth reading a couple times.

Additionally, that sample is typically NOT representative of the population at large.

Vehicle forums tend to attract two main segments; enthusiasts/modders and those who have a problem then find the forum while searching for help/info about that problem. Enthusiats by nature can be pretty demanding, and aren't representative of the general buying public. Non-enthusiats who experience a problem are much more likely to find and join a forum like TW than non-enthusiasts who are happy with their truck.

So between the two it'll look like it's a pile of shit when it really isn't. Pretty normal first model year stuff, with some tapering into the second model year. Dial back the lock in this forum to the first years of the 2nd gen and you'll see similar patterns. Pretty much look at any active enthusiast vehicle forum and you'll see similar patterns.

This is my 5th Taco. I've had zip issues really. Did have R to D surge issues to start but TSB took care of my issues. "All" my past Tacomas had problems especially my 2nd Gen 2009, had to finally sell that one too many issues to list. Folks complain of power and performance issues with 3rd Gen. But if you do your homework this 3rd Gen out performs in all areas, 0-60 3rd gen 6.6 to 6.8, 2nd Gen 7.2 and worse. There is a certain amount of "lemons" in every batch...

I have had mine since Sept 18th, 2015. No issues except the tranny nuances that was fixed by the TSB.

I've had my 2016 of a couple months now, nearing 5k. Yes, it needs both TSBs (tranny and arm howling), it has a rattle coming from the right side A pillar, and it shakes slightly when coming to a stop. I fully expect all this to be resolved when I take it in for the 5k service. I've pulled my camper without any issues. Everything works, just not perfectly.

When people buy a new vehicle that cost $XX, they expect perfection, but that simply isn't a realistic expectation with all the complex systems vehicles have in them today. Thousands of opportunities for errors/design limitations. I've bought quite a few new vehicles, and most of them have had some initial quirks about them that were typically simple remedies. Toyota has always taken care of me.

What you should be asking is input from drivers that have at least 50k miles. That should be a better testament of longer term quality to help offset all the enthusiast/winer comments.

I have 7k miles on my 3rd Gen and its 4 months old. Zero problems. ran the TSB update anyway, and it upgraded my MPG by 3-4. i was getting 16-17 in town and now I am getting 19-20. no howls. no tranny issues.

first taco owner here too! came from a GMC.

I should add that mine is a manual transmission, so I haven't had the TSB issue that the auto folks have had. Another photo just because I like photos...
