265s or 285s w/ spacers

    It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
    Coming from sports cars, I have always heard people saying not to use wheel spacers. I don't want to buy new wheels unless I absolutely have to. I would much rather spend that $1500 on a front locker and air, dual battery with fridge, or rear bumper.

    Should I just stick to 265/75/16s on stock OR wheels, or jump up to 285/75/16s with spacers? Tires will be STT Pros. Are spacers inherently risky? And if I do go with spacers, should I put them on all 4 wheels, or just the front? Thanks

    I've been running 1.5-inch spidertrax spacers with 285s for about a year and love the look. No problems at all. All the cool kids are doing it.

    Jokes aside. I went with 265/70/17s and was happy for about a month, then got the bug to go bigger. I paid twice, and lost out because of it. I'd recommend if you're feeling like 285s then 265s won't satisfy you. Spacers are safe as long as you buy them from a reputable vendor and install them correctly.

    I saw a few with 255/85/16 (or maybe 255/80/17), wich both are a narrow 33". Give you the height you want with nearly no rubbing (as I red). With the stock trd wheel you should be able to run them without spacers. I personnally run spacers but only for the stance and I have had zero issue yet.

    basically I want to beat the living shit out of the truck. Would it be better to have the smaller tires or the bigger rubber with spacers? I've got full skids and I think I know the answer. 285s only gives me 1/2". that aint shit. might as well be smart and stick with the smaller tires, without a lot of lift and let the tacoma TACOMA on all the lifted jeeps and chevys

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
    Spacers are risky if you don't install them correctly, like not torquing them down with thread lock. Beyond that they cause a little more wear because you're extending the tire contact patch further than it was designed but that's the case with aftermarket wheels with different backspacing anyway.

    I'm on a 285s w/spacers and haven't had any issues. If you do put them on I'd definitely do all 4 corners otherwise you're going to have a funky pit bull stance; wide up front and narrow in the back but if you're into that go for it.

    I've logged just over 33,000 miles with 1" Bora spacers. Never the first sign of a problem. I do NOT suggest using thread locker. Torque the lugs properly and call it good. I've put in some hard off road miles too. With spacers, a 265/75/16 looks much better than without the spacers. I have NO rubbing issues now (w/3" lift) nor before the lift. (Stock TRD OR wheels/265/75/16 lrC Duratracs) I will be putting 285's on with the next set of new tires.
