Hi, I just bought a 2013 tss sport and with it just starting to get cold in the mornings I want to warm my truck up before I head home (I work nights). Today I noticed that when I cranked up my Tacoma and tried to lock it, the doors would automatically unlock themselves. I then tried using the key fob and noticed that when the key is in the ignition, the key fob doesn't work at all. Am i missing something here? Can I really not lock my doors while I'm trying to preheat my vehicle? Thx for reading.

That's the truck preventing you from licking your keys inside. It's normal. Been that way since 2006 if I recall correctly.

I get what it's for, is there not a way I can lock my doors while I'm heating up my vehicle?

You need a remote start. You are stuck with what you have.

On the plus side, an aftermarket remote start is much better than the factory versions and much cheaper than ordering the truck with the remote start package.

Have you tried manually locking the door with a key from the outside? Like your spare key while the truck is running.

That really sucks. I have to spend even more money just so I can warm up my vehicle because Toyota feels the need to dummy proof something. I see no reason why the key fob shouldn't work with the key in the ignition but that's just me.

I haven't, was going to try that next. Was thinking that it would be pretty stupid to have to have both of my keys on me just to safely warm up my vehicle but if it works I guess I should be happy now....lol
