So the 4x4 and TRD emblems aren't colored matched? One matte one shiny?

So today I picked up my new 17 QS Tacoma. I had a TRD pro grill that I got for my black Tacoma but since I traded it that truck in I decided to put it on the QS truck. I didn't like the "gray" letters so I decided to pop them off the TRD pro grill and re-paint them a flat black, I think it matches a lot better... Well in my opinion anyway lol

I'v got the Pro grill and really don't like how shiny the black finish is...and was thinking about spray painting it flat black, your mod kinda inspired me. Also, do the letters just pop out?

Need to find a way to get a grille pre chrome trim. :( or do any of the other grills use the trim surround that might make it in black?

I have the same question, do the letters just pop out? Held in by clips?

I'm going to Plasti-Dip mine. Matte Black, may do the letters in White Plasti-Dip.

I figure the Dip will help protect it from nicks/chips/minor road rash. Plus if I don't like the look I can always peel it off. $6 a can, can't go wrong.

Could also spray paint it whatever color on top of 6 coats of Dip. That way it can still be easily removed.

Letters can be pushed out from the back of grill .. they are attached to front of grill with a thin double sided tape

So does that mean if you remove them, you then have to replace the d.s.tape? Doesn't seem like a good idea to reuse the same tape.

I'll look at mine later today. Then I can decide if I'll even have to remove them, or just mask off around them.

Ask @iHoopAlot as he just removed and painted his letters ... i know one other person stated they were able to just re-use the tape as when they removed the letters the tape stayed on the grill

Yeah I just popped my letters off and painted them. You can stick new enhesive tape on there if you'd like. But I was just able to reuse mine and just stick the letters back on. I wouldn't worry about them falling off. There stuck there really tight.

I sent an email to partznet/conciella along with a pic of the newly discovered chrome trim on the TRD Pro grill, basically to satisfy my curiosity regarding the change.

    My email:

Recently I ordered (and received in good condition) the 2017 TRD Pro Grill, Part# PT228-35170. This morning, I was on Toyota’s website and noticed that they now show that grill with a chrome trim ring, which is different from what they showed when I ordered mine.

Do you happen to know if this is an engineering change on the part of Toyota? If so, I wonder if this is the reason there is a STOP SALE on the first edition of these grills.

Any insight into this would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Grill.jpg

    Their response:

Thank you for your continued patronage!

Unfortunately Toyota is showing parts on their site that aren't available yet. There is no stop sale of PT228-35170 but Toyota hasn't manufactured enough of them to keep up with demand so until they do, we won't sale them.

At this time, I would advise that you periodically check in with us in the next few months for insight.
