No way, Don't cut it off. It's such an easy fix. Hammer gently back into shape, you might need to use some large vice grips or a large C clamp, to help bend it back into shape.

Then take it to a metal shop and they can lay a weld down underneath to reconnect the step.

Then sell it, let'em know you whacked/repaired it. Sell it for half of what you paid, or ask that much for starters. Throw it on Craigslist. Somebody will jump on it, re-spray both matte black.

Shouldn't cost more than $20 to have a guy reweld it, especially if you do most of the straightening out yourself. Not a difficult job.

Plus it will be fun to do!

p.s. I'd put a piece of 2x4 on the right side, and bang it back towards the front of the truck, until it's pretty much lined up correctly. Leave it mounted to the truck, it will be easier and will hold better in place.

    Lady driver over here.

This summer was the year I decided I was done working 50+ hr weeks and instead trade it for adventures and more exploration. I quit my weekend second job, created an overlanding group with my toyota friends and put over 6K miles since July camping in some of the most remote places in Utah. Best part is I haven't even noticed the extra 200 bucks suddenly not there. I'm wealthier than I've ever been. My plans are to make my truck completely overland worthy and take a whole summer off to roam.

First picture was last weekend on the Poison springs trail down by Lake Powell. The river is impassable in spring and unfortunately a massive rock slide took out the trail just beyond the river.

Whomever is doing the repaire/weld work would be sure to check for stress cracks. Always better Safe than Sorry!

From the looks of it, it should be an easy fix.

Now I know what my Blazing blue would look like with the bumpers and all blacked out! Love it! Awesome trips, very jealous of your adventures.

I will be sure to. I'm going to research what I do before I start - Not just hammer away, lol. Might see if any of my local people would be willing to help.
It's still holding weight well as is (I'm not a light woman by any means, lol), so that's a plus, but no clue how it'll hold up once I start manipulating it.

I'd be more than happy to help you, wish you were local. Love doing stuff like that, it's very satisfying dong a job well done! Especially not having to pay someone for something that really is much easier than one would think.

I think i could justify a trip up your way just to fix it. It's a pretty drive! lol. Though the gas would cost what someone would charge to fix it, haha.

I'm betting a shop would try to get at least $200 out of me just for that, and a dealer would want to replace the whole thing, lol. Like you said though, and I believe it, it should be a relatively easy fix. Just finding someone who can weld it is the issue.

Your best bet would be to find a "Local Weld" shop :sawzall:, either a brick & mortar store or a portable welder:welder:; these folks usually price accordingly especially if you can come to them....

    Good luck

Ya I agree, lots of shops around, a muffler/exhaust shop etc.. If you have a vocational high school around, they probably have a welding class/shop. Or if you're out in the sticks, just about every farm has an arc welder.

$20 tops, it will take them 10 minutes and they're done!

I'll ask around with my friends first. i know one used to weld in High School (I went to a tech high school btw! lol). I'll have to see if they still have access to the stuff. Otherwise I'll give my old HS a call and see if they'll do work for an alumn, lol. Though I better have the top kid in class doing the work, lol.

BTW looked up the slider's brand y'all mentioned earlier - very nice! okay price too. I like their front bumper too, but it requires cutting the factory one. Know of a brand that just has you remove it entirely? (winch capabilities and recovery points included)

It's doesn't require professional help. You find an Ol Timer who will be more than happy to help. Lots of guys who work on cars/trucks/tractors etc., have an Arc welder in their garage/shop.

My hubby has one, uses not even once a year now, but when you need it, you need it. I broke the weld on our calf raise machine in our little basement gym. It always has weight on it, 4-1 ratio, so after a couple decades of use one of the welds finally failed.

Told my husband, ten minutes later it's welded and painted. Good for another ten years or more.

That's the way to go! Somebody you know knows someone who will probably do it for free, or a couple beers! People are always happy to help out.

My parents always called my sliders "steps" didn't have the heart to correct them plus it would have launched us into a whole other convo about why I needed rock sliders that I just didn't care to have.....

The reason for rock sliders is a convo I dont want to have with my father either. Luckily he lives in Houston, so he doesn't see this stuff often.
My problem right now is posting all my awesome wheelin' photos without him having an aneurysm at the thought I went off roading, let alone in my brand new truck, lmao (He should expect this kind of behavior from me by now)....Now my mother? She's so clueless she wouldn't know until I mentioned it, then she'd be like "oh that's nice" lol.
