Either opinions sound fine. I'm going with a dual battery though. Going to mount it under my bed in a box of some sort. That way I can charge the 2nd battery from a solar panel while offroading and what not and while sleeping not have to worry about the battery not working. Just my 2 cents

 

I see, i just got one of those fancy smart jumpers off the marketplace, it's pretty good so i may end up just running the larger battery with a 100W solar panel tied into it trickle charging it whenever the trucks not running since i'll have the fridge in the bed always on.

It could work either way, i think the dual battery would work alot better for you since you've got hella accessories

On the project we're working on, they got us 7 day on (~100hrs) and 3 days off, then we go back for 7 days and get off 4. If the 3/4 days falls on a weekend + i dont have drill ill FOR SURE be going camping seriously..

 

Dual battery, never leave yourself stranded. It's just straight up silly to run a fridge and other "house" accessories on your starting battery.

 

100 watt panel is no trickle, at up to 10amps (in perfect conditions).

 

My ideal setup has the solar charging primarily the "house" battery and alternator primarily charging the starting battery. With a Blueseas (dual charge sensing) ACR, both will interlock and charge the other battery, plus you can Jumpstart yourself.

 

So what about that other link i sent you from expo portal about the cheap dual battery wiring setup?

Would that allow me to do all those things you listed, including most importantly, jumpstarting myself?

What batteries would you reccomend running as well as the mounting solution for the batteries? Im brainstorming and need a parts list

Just got it off a member on here for about 100$ so the savings are still pretty good since i dont really have a desire for all the added features that come with that ACR blue sea setup.

So where does the Bussman fuse box go in that diagram that dude built?

As long as you understand the limitations of the system. Blue seas would be hooked to Pos/Neg of either battery, depending on how you wanted to run things. Your fridge would go off the House battery.

 

not sure i caught where you said the bussman fuse box would fit in the above diagram bud.

So the fridge would be hard wired from a 12V plug in the bed to the house battery (+) terminal?

Ahhh gotcha. Any particular reason why it matters if i hook the bussman up to the Main or the house battery?

My confusion lies in where you said "depending on how you wanna run it".

I dont wanna dabble too much into the lighting/electrical scene, i dont know too much about it and learning as i go, this is the easiest way i feel i can tackle this

 

It just depends on where you want which loads, no absolute correct way to do it. Winch goes straight to battery because extreme amp draw, the rest is low enough to run through a relay box.

Example: My house battery is removable, so obviously I want my air compressor on my starting battery. Incase I leave the house battery somewhere.

 

Gotcha, are optima batteries the only ones i can run dual? They're the only ones ive seen

 

You can run any batteries . The House battery needs to be Deep cycle with a good Ah rating.

 

ive seen people run that second battery on the passenger side near the ABS? I think that'd be good.
