Roughly 16 teams under .500, a gaggle of shitty QB's, more people concerned with fantasy ball. There used to be a lot more teams in contention at this point of the season.

Agreed. What happened this year? The whole season has seemed rather "meh" so far.

 

Too much NFL everywhere, on phones, computers, email, overexposure. To me the tipping point seemed to be the stupid Thursday night games. It's just common sense that a Thursday night game is bad for the players. I think people sense that the NFL is just trying to dominate the world (London? wtf) and, like any jaded consumer, people are pushing back a bit. It's supposed to be fun, a game. Looks too much like big business right now, not fun. Amazon = big business, but we want it to be big business because we want to buy the stuff they've got. I don't want my football games rammed down my throat.

 

I dunno. It's depressing. This is a real era of mediocre QB's, and expecting too much out of rookies maybe.

 

Thursday night's better than a Sunday night game that starts at 8:30, though. Who wants to stay up and watch that shit, knowing that you've got a full week to drag through afterwards?

Just between high points, more or less. The 2000's were full of QB's coming into their own, with rule changes that let them take advantage of it. Now we're seeing a the league's best fading or retiring or spending the entire season on the bench due to injury, and a bunch of rookies/backups or 2nd/3rd year starters scrambling around trying to find a rhythm with a team that hasn't been built around them yet.

 

I do have a case of the Mondays, damn it. Monday night games are all on ESPN now and I don't f**king have cable!

 

I agree 100% ! The NFL has saturated the market with its product. Eliminate the Thursday and Sunday night games. The phrase is true 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'.
One other major factor to lack of interest is all the ridiculous rules and penalties. These refs still have no idea what roughing the passer is, and hit on a defenseless receiver?!? What!?! He's wearing pads correct, it is TACKLE football correct. Stop the insanity and the interest will return.

 

Yes, great catch pardon the pun. The penalties... I think of that every game I watch. There's so damn many of them that any flow to the game is obliterated, both for fan and player. It's like "Cmon, get on with it and let them play the damn game!!!" A few years ago it seemed like a decent balance... now, there are penalties after every other snap.

 

If the matchups were good theres nothing wrong with thursday night football.... seems like the league has a ton of shitty/mediocre teams. Im jealous of the west coast 10am start on sundays and night game at 5:30. Instead i have the chinese disease on monday mornings dragonass

Raiders Jags, 239 yards of penalties combined, most this season, the game had NO PACE, NO MOMENTUM. I was worried I run out of time on the recording cause I only added .5 hour extra time. It sucks when a win is tedious. The only thing worse would be a tedious loss. Right @Gply?

 

A sloppy mediocre game for sure but we'll def take the with!!!!
