I've traveled up to 1600 miles to get a good deal on a car. I usually make it a fun trip. The internet is awesome like that.

Sure pay all most as much as you would for a new truck, but have higher interest rates. Thats a wicked smart $$$ move, not.

Mine was $32.4k + $1000 in random accessories I added + tax/tag/etc., so out the door was right at $35k. I've added a few extras so the amount of money spent on it has gone up just a little. Might seem like too much for some, but all cars have gone up in price. My first Mustang 5.0L was about $13k brand new back in 1992. Today a 5.0L Mustang starts in the low 30's and can get up to $45k with the right options. That doesn't mean that a new Mustang isn't worth it, because it's a great car compared to what else is on the market. I'm just saying that it's better to compare to other vehicles that are on the market to see what you get for X amount of dollars, than to compare to the same model how ever many years ago. For $35k you aren't getting a very well optioned full size pickup, and the other mid-size pickups all seemed to be of lesser quality to me (plus worse off road capability, and no MT V6 4x4). For what I wanted (MT, V6, 4x4, mid-size), it was literally the only option, but it also has a lot of great features that I think make it nice regardless. It really is a lot of vehicle for the price if you look at what else is available in the segment for the same price.

My credit union offers 1.17% for vehicles that are 2013 and newer! Is what I'd tell you if my post was a serious suggestion.

That seems uncommon, so don't be surprised at the response. My credit union's base rates are for 2015-2017, add a 0.50% for 2013-14, another 0.20% for 2012, another 0.30% for 2011 etc. Non-top-tier credit sees higher rates though steps remain similar and they still generally beat the banks.

Nice rates, that is not typical, and you also need to qualify for those is my serious response.

My sarcastic response, buy the old truck with great interest rates, not the new truck with better gas mileage, extra safety features and only a few grand more.:annoyed:

People easily forget the 1st and 2nd gen had tons of "problems" as well, the only difference today is social media is a lot more powerful and WAY more people use the internet. On the dealer side theres a negligible difference in warranty vs retail work RO ratios which is a major thing to look for in regards to initial quality, but its not necessarily published info so JD Power and stuff don't look at it, but dealerships sure do :)

I believe the reason people think the 3rd gen is "lower quality" is the same reason people think crime is skyrocketing despite easily verifiable evidence showing its the exact opposite. We just SEE things more these days, things that were always there just not talked about as much.

Yeah there's new model issues like the low tranny fluid (which ironically happened to the 2nd gen as well and was thoroughly discussed right here on TW, but again people forget) but on the dealer side the majority of complaints are software related stuff with Entune, which didn't even exist on previous Tacomas so of course none of those had problems like that.

Talking to my long term service advisors that have been with Toyota since before the Tacoma even existed they see no downward trend in quality, what they do see is a downward trend in maintenance. You simply spend less $ on maintenance for every newer generation of Tacoma, and that's a good thing :)

Hush now, nobody wants to hear the realty of things. It's more fun to bitch and moan about what's likely a relatively normal rate of initial defects.

Yup, and if you're happy with the new Tacoma you're just a fan-boy that doesn't know better.

Well of course, because anyone that doesn't think the same way I do obviously is a shill or a fanboy. I mean, someone thinking differently than I do is a threat to my self-image, and thus the only response I can form is an ad hominem attack.

Maybe but my countless loaner 3rd gen tacos all have their fair share of QC issues along with the bigger problems. It's wider spread than a lot would like to believe. Maybe some of you dont have a frame of reference of how a vehicle should be, and I dont say that as troll bait. I say that because I'm genuinely amazed that I have driven in countless tacomas that all have problems and there are plently of people here that claim they have none.

I just dont believe them at this point, because of the 2-3 dozen tacomas ive been in...they've all had diff howls of some degree and the rumble strip while stopping and other QC issues (shift knob loose, door seals letting tons of noise in, etc).

How many new 1st and 2nd gens did you get to drive when they first came out? It's fairly obvious that the new one is showing issues, but I just can not believe that they all do.
