Honestly in total took me about 3-4 hours.....but I had other stuff going on last weekend so my timeline was: Start on Saturday night and re-installed headlights Sunday night.

Not sure what tail lights you're talking about but it's probably illegal & not so safe. You might get away with a real light tint. You can use VHT Nightshades or have a film put on.

Does anyone suppose it would be beneficial to hit the inside of the lens with an anti-fogging coating before putting it back together? The only reason I ask is that one of my lenses has moisture now (factory sealed) and didn't know if that would help. Not only is this mod a perfect excuse to get inside and clean it out but they look damn good when painted.

I didn't do it when I did mine & have been lucky but I'd put a couple of those silica packs in them to absorb any moisture. They come in different sizes. My light bar is a cheap one off ebay & was getting moisture in it, I put 4 of those in it & no moisture since plus I sealed it with rtv sealant.

    Just a few LEDs...
Contrary to popular belief, the headlights are not truly sealed. There are two little rubber boots on each headlight assembly that cover vents which are designed to keep splashing water from entering the headlights and allow for thermal expansion of the air inside the headlight when the bulbs are on.

Now with that said, it is still important to have a good seal around the perimeter of the headlight housing to prevent water from entering there. Unless there is an easy way for water to make its way into the housing, any moisture should eventually be baked out simply by running the headlights over time. It is possible however for very humid air to be drawn back into the housings when they cool off but this moisture should eventually dissipate as well.

image.jpg I did this mod ending up having a leak in one headlight after sealing with silicone..
Ended up pulling light apart and sealed it again with the window weld.... No more leaks
    Moral of the story:
If you do this mod use the 3m window weld.. Or marine goop :)

    Hi all,

attempting my first retrofit this evening.

I have the BI-XENON: MORIMOTO MINI H1 kit with 3Five ballasts.

I've taken my headlights apart, I've ground down the rear tabs on the reflector to fit the Morimoto H1. Everything is painted / blacked out.
Once I have installed everything, do I need to seal the back of the Morimoto H1 where the bulb / HID connector interface? Normally there is a rubber boot here on the stock configuration.

I assume this would be a prime moisture egress point -- suggestions / tips appreciated?

I used the stock boot, and ran all my wires through it, bit I also have 2 sets of halos and demon eyes as well as HID wires. If you feel the need to seal them up then go for it. Everyone has different setups that work for them.

I'm wrestling with this decision too. I think its a toss up between satin and gloss.

Anyone blacked out the reflective bowl with stock lighting set up-no retro' projectors('12-'15)? I'm guessing this will eliminate the light projection and defeat the functionality of the headlight?Hoping there might be someone still alive on here...o_O

That'll definitely make your headlights useless. Don't do it unless you're planning on retrofitting
