Wait for the LNG pipeline to Kitamat. It's not hard to turn an LNG to an oil one.

How exactly would it make sense to spend billions building an LNG facility in Kitimat to then turn around and send crude oil to it

Canada east all over again... and look at how well that's going.

I'm hearing that some oil companies are looking into how much it would cost to setup the port at Churchill as an oil terminal. It's a shallow water port but with a terminal offshore it could work. If that ever happens I'll laugh my ass off. You know, because an oil terminal near the Arctic with tankers going through ice fields is such a better idea then an over land pipeline to Eastern Canada or to an established port in Vancouver. It just goes to show you these decisions are 100 percent political and have nothing to do with what's practical.

It doesn't make sense; two different types of compressor/ pumping stations along the route. What does make sense is it established the right of way for future uses.

Depends on supply and demand. If China no longer needs LNG and the price of oil jumps. All of a sudden an established pipeline looks like an option.

The biggest issue with transportation of dangerous goods, is corporate greed. Most companies make numerous attempts to push product for the lowest price, so they eventually reduce the amount of staff. Lac Megantic train disaster is a great example of that, where they had only 1 crewman driving the train and leaving a train unattended overnight holding enough explosive material to flatten a small town.

Same goes with pipelines, when they are new, they are not a problem, but as they age they start to fail. What the preventative maintenance interval on that equipment. Do things get replaced upon failure or prior to failure.

Hello hello , is this thing on ?

Most opposition in BC to the proposed pipelines to the coast are not the pipelines themselves its the massive increase in tanker traffic with no capability to deal with a spill

I think I've said this about 14 million times now

Time to release GMO salmon into the wild. Got to feed them whales. I kid I kid. It's a sad story but at this point humans have permanently altered our entire ecosystem. It'll be interesting to see what's left in 30 years of these whales, and particularly this pod.

Scale back limits on the commercial Chinook salmon catch and put some money back into our hatchery programs

Every 2-4 years depending on sub species in the most simplistic way

In truth its more complex than that due to habitat degradation and loss at sea , plus the BC hatcheries are only on certain rivers and the small natural streams / river runs have all been impacted by over fishing as well as habitat degradation by logging / hydro / development etc
