Yesterday I dipped my TRD Pro Grille, didn't like it shiny black. So I went with Matte Black.

Today I did the "TOYOTA" letters in a Dark Gray

I'll give it a couple days to cure then I'll apply a couple coats of an aftercare spray. It's suppose to make it smoother and give it an extra layer of protection. Got it from dipyourcar.

I've considered dipping my trd grill myself, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort if I replace the bumper here in about a year.
How much did you use/the cost?

If your doing one color only, say matte black, one can will be more than enough. Bought mine at homedepot, $6 a can.

Taking the grille out is super easy. YouTube has several "how to" videos. Two screws, and two plastic inserts. Spray on a light coat, every ten or fifteen minutes. 6-8 coats is perfect.

About two hours and the grille is back in the truck!

I know I'm late to the party ..lol
Look at it this way.....you're better off destroying side steps than bitchin up your rockers. I destroyed a pair of tube steps back 'in the day' on my 96 tacoma (got high centered). Best damn thing I ever did!! LOL

Do you need a step? Cut the step off.....and call it good. Looks like there's enough of a rail there for protection. Those steps will always 'be in that way' when they stick out like that.

Or...get yourself a pair or rock sliders (and don't cheap on this). I highly recommend getting something that sticks OUT far enough that you could theoretically use it as a step. Look for some used ones. I bought a pair of used double tube square sliders. I had them welded to 'angle iron' and the angle iron was stitch welded to the frame. This was on a 96 tacoma. If you're familiar with the previous tacoma rust issues - I swear, those rock sliders is what held the frame together! They were so heavy duty that I used them to jack the truck up with when changing tires. But like I said.....don't cheap out on rock sliders. :). Good Luck!

I'm not terribly worried about it. But I do want to make an attempt to fix it, so that I can sell them for a few bucks when I upgrade to sliders (which was always my game plan, I'm just broke for a bit while replenishing my savings). A couple others have mentioned SOS concepts sliders. I also like BAMF from what I've seen on here.

My major mods won't start until the spring though - so it's time for research! lol. Plus I need to learn more about my truck in its entirety so I don't have to rely on people (reason I got a 4x4 truck in the first place!). Does anyone know of a comprehensive site, book, or youtube channel that's good for learning just about everything? My knowledge at this point includes changing wiper blades and oil.

I have sliders on my FJ from PureFJ. They're made by AllPro.
I have the kick-out on mine too. An added bonus with sliders is that they give you parking lot protection from door dings.
They stick out enough that they give great access to the roof. I also added 3M non skid strips to them.
Only trouble with that is just getting used to them while wearing shorts. After skinning my shins a few times, I got educated pretty fast.

From the looks of it, I really can't go wrong with any brand sliders. I definitely want the kick out on whichever I choose.
As for the 3m strips, Ive seen people Bedlining their sliders. Would that be overkill? Feel like it'd give you good enough traction.

In the 2 months I've now had my truck I've gone to learn how to avoid hitting my legs on the steps. First month was full of shin brusies. Lol damn predator steps. In my way with how tall I am. A lift would change that though :D.

Awesome! Sounds like the same never stop going attitude my mom has. She'll be fine, and much happier on ski trips too.

Saw this last night. Wouldn't this be a little too lowprofile of a bumper for any real offroading? I like the price and not needing to cut the entire bumper. I don't know enough about serious offroading wether it would be a good choice or not. Though I won't be in the bumper buying market until at least july/august next year. Sliders first!

I forgot to ask that on the last part! Thanks for the advice. I was going to ask if the sliders are okay as bolt on, or if I might as well weld them on from the start.
