Yea probably, ill replace relatively soon as well.

When the outer was detached I checked the inner for wiggle though and seemed to be “okay”... just may be a bit worn out

Theres no harm in driving with them with a small amount of play is there?

Not like having lower ball joint failure etc

Hey guys. Didn't wanna start a new thread so have a couple questions Regarding suspension. Plan to get some extended king c.o. up front. Kinda budgeted for the rear after those so.. I was thinking of ome nitros to go with the dakars.. Or should I go icons for the rear?

    Plans:

    Front
    Ext kings
    Ext brake lines

    Rear
    Dakars w/nitros
    Shackle bushings for stock shackles
    Ubolts
    Brake prop bracket
    Ext brake line

Anything else I'm missing? Shackle bolts maybe just in case they're seized? Do I need any new bumpstops Or stock fine for now?

I'm not too sure you'll appreciate the limited travel of the rear if you put nitrochargers on (they run short), but I will say that you'll likely need a whole new set of rear shackles as they seize in and you cannot just replace the bolts (they are a pressed in stud).

Wheelers superbumps are liked by many here for the rear.

    Enjoyed mine so far

Meant to ask if nitros would even work. So icons be good enough to pair with the kings? And sounds good on the shackles. Didn't know that. Thought the bolts could just be replaced. Greasables then? And do I really need the replacement bumpstops? Or only if you plan to thrash the truck?

I would advise that you wait on ordering shocks until you have had the time to cycle the new leafs and find out what lengths you need for your specific application. You can then look up what fits and make your decision. But Icon is quality stuff and completely revalvable so I don't see why it would be a bad choice if the lengths are compliant. You'll want bumpstops that are appropriate for your shock travel. You can only match your shocks so well to the truck, after that you'll need to see how tall your bumps need to be to avoid bottoming your nice new shocks. The OME greasable bushing and shackle set is quality stuff (I like em and my leafs no squeaky squeaky).

Wait, will the dakars net me 3" to pair with the front kings at 3"? Is that why they "fall short"? Because they are paired with dakars...? Or would I need some Lift shackles? Cuz the dakars are 2.5" yeah?
Sorry for all the questions. Lol. Just trying to understand what combos will work. Heh.

The Dakars will net somewhere near 3" when brand new but settle to 2.5-2.75 shortly after. Which is the height you should have your Kings at too (3" is really unnecessary and puts strain on our front ends leaving us with little to no down travel). The Dakars can flex a lot though and that is where the Nitros fall short because they are relatively short travel shocks.

So I wouldn't go with the 0-3 " shocks from icon. They'll be to short. Epically if your going for a lift. They limit down travel on my stock springs . They do ride nice though.

@NightProwler Id listen to this guy about cycling the new leafs before buying shocks. I bought a complete OME kit and the leafs have more down travel than the shocks, so the shocks limit the travel. I'm scared they're gonna bust open! Now I need to weld in new shock mounts. :anonymous::sawzall::welder:

Well what the hell. Ha. I was actually deciding on Fox's. But they're the same length. Hmm. Well what other options have I?? And I need need need new shocks asap. The rears are completely shot. Along with the leafs. I am upgrading from this crappy spacer lift with blocks that I've been suffering with since I bought it.. Was hoping I could slap it all on there and be good! Ha. So I should just put the leafs on first then? With my stock shocks??

You could while waiting for new shocks to come in . It'll probably ride like crap though.

You could get some cheap shocks from one of the big box stores, its Shocktober month at advanced auto? Just some cheap shocks to hold you over if you're that desperate.

The whole idea behind installing leafs first is so you can cycle the leaves and take measurements to determine how much travel they have. Then you can find shocks that have the extended/collapsed length and stroke length that will pair nicely with your new leafs. Is that what you're wondering about?

Yeah. But I had just assumed that one of those I had in mind would work regardless. Apparently not. Wonder why they sell them as kits tho.. Downsouth offers a build your own and they only offer icon/fox/ Billie 5125 iirc, or kings. What are some other options for rear shocks? Depending on what will work best with my leaves after I cycle them that is.

Match them to what ever front shock you have or are planning on getting so the valving is similar.

Ugh. Totally reconsidering this whole idea now. Wtf. Welp, king rears are totally out of the question. At least for quite a while. I really wanted to get a mid travel setup, as it's taken me this long to save for it. And having to spend even more for all those little "extras" like shackles and brake lines and other things, is putting me at the max of my limit. Starting to sound like it's better to go with something else. Like an ome kit.. Or an all pro kit. Sigh..

Well if it makes you feel better I have leafs sitting in my garage. Because I can't afford the rest of the stuff either.
What springs were you going to use ?.

we could ride some trails .if you want to see how the icons ride.

I been thinking on camp out so I need a tent.

Can you give ideas of where to buy a tent to use on top of the Tacoma shortbed ?

Some TWM has nice ones but don't recall whom can share those links ?

    Thanks in advance..:thumbsup::oldglory:
