I have question for any plumbers, I have a second floor shower stall which started leaking thru the ceiling so I cut a hole and found that water rivlets are coming thru the seam in the pvc trap, the trap has been cemented in on both ends so removing it would be futile, my question is the best fix is to cut it out and replace but what could I replace the cut piece with or is it feasible to do anyway, somebody says you can cut it out and replace with a neoprene coupler that has 2 hose clamps but its a trap and is constantly holding water im afraid the the coupler itself would eventually start leaking at the cut joints. some people recommended using a sealant or glue but it wont be a permanent fix, other than ripping out the floor pan and PVC connections and start all over does anyone have a suggestion that may work?

Can you access the pipe above and below the trap?

You would have to cut it out to get a Fernco fitting on no matter what

Do you have any room above the trap maybe 2 inches to cut it loose? Can you get a side pic of this trap?

this seems to be the best, I am a little hesitant to do this cutting myself, it might be best to call a plumber to evaluate but I know the answer would be a complete renovation of the shower stall and bathroom which is what I want to avoid

Check with a plumbing supply house, but I'm thinking cut it but with enough exposed either end for a slip pipe adapter and simply put a new p trap to the side.

My old house had old pipes and a few areas had adapters. Had no issues

I may just try using the jb weld after cleaning and drying up the pvc its only a slight leak and you cannot see it with the human eye in the seam

I agree, if I can cut the leaking area out and replace it with a neoprene fernco coupler probably would work hopefully long term, better than just trying to seal it with something

agreed, thought to get some input 1st probably best to get an expert, but I will ask about just cutting the trap and trying a coupler

thing is that its unusual and my luck that a tiny leak developed in the seam of the trap like that, I guess having water lying in the bend eventually found its way out

    IMO I would:
    -Remove drain
    -Remove elbow
-Cut back to clean PVC for new union
    -Replace drain, elbow etc.
It's like $50 in parts maximum.
