I just got a shell that has some damage that I'm going to have to re-glass. And I'm sure I'm not the first to be in this situation and probably not the first to want to use a textured bedliner paint. I live in the desert and the finish is already not very good and I'll probably only use the shell a couple times a year so, I'm kinda thinking this is what I want to do.

Has anyone else done this? Are you happy with it? Any recommendations?

I did this. I picked up a used topper for cheap that was the wrong color red...so, i painted it with spray bedliner and it's worked well! I took the multiple layer approach and it seems to be holding up really well.

I also took steelwool to the whole topper first though, to give a non-smooth surface for which the spray could set. Seems to work well. I'll see if i can find a pic to upload later.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
With my last Tacoma I had a topper which didnt color match. I stopped by the local Rhinoliner dealer to get quote for the topper. The price was above the benefit for me. But, what really put a hold on it was the dealer said he'd be glad to take my money but he recommended against it. He said the rough finish would just progressively accumulate dirt.

I'm not worried about dirt accumulation. I plan to use sand color anyway. It'll blend right in with the desert and the light color won't be as hot in the summer.
