"Bass rolloff"? That's the head unit turning the bass down as you turn the volume up, right?

Yeah, I haven't ran into it at all. I have plenty of bass no matter what volume I have it on.

I did want to give an update now that I have had my system in my truck for a few months. The Kicker CompRT subs are great and sound better the more broke in they are. I would recommend them to anyone. The rest of the kicker speakers are great as well.

Man after my own heart. Didn't take me very long to start tearing my truck apart. At least there are more of us that have done an audio system in their turd gen than when I started mine.

I've been spending a good amount of time going through several of the audio threads but this one in particular since there is a lot of great info. I will be installing a Alpine KTP-445U amp between the Entune premium non JBL head unit and some component kicker speakers. I have both of these Metra harnesses and just a bit confused on how to wire it up. Do the instructions below for repinning the harnesses apply to the Alpine amp? It's been 16 years since I have messed with head units, amps and speakers on a vehicle I own. I got my truck in July and "amped" up about getting some better audio in it even if it's not a full blown upgrade. Any info you all could provide will be appreciated by my novice self.

Welcome to TW!! I'm glad the thread is helping you out. Yeah the harness with speedwire will work perfectly for the alpine power pack. I just installed one in my buddies Chevy silverado with a similar harness I built for him. Worked perfectly. Two words of advice when installing the power pack, since you are not using the rca inputs on it you don't want to turn the gain on it any higher than 1/4 or the way up and just use the signal sense, you don't need to hook up the remote turn on wire. His power pack turned out great and is sounds killer! I mounted it in his glove box. Looks pretty awesome in there.

Awesome, your install in the glovebox is clean and hope to replicate my install similar to what you have done. Initially I opened the dash to see how I was going to wire the kicker tweeter with the stock wiring. Saw the factory four pin connector and that scared me off from going that route because it wasn't clear to me how to splice into the wiring. I don't want to cut any factory wiring and am now set on using the crossover box wires to hook up the woofer and tweeter with dedicated speaker wire. I'm going to try and repin the Metra harnesses during the week and attempt the install this weekend. Thanks for the advice!

No problem at all man. PM me or just ask on this thread if you have any questions. I wouldn't use the stock wiring for your mids and tweets, just go strait off the power pack to your crossovers then from the crossovers to the speakers. it's not too hard to get speaker sire through the grommets that go into the doors. use glass cleaner to lubricate the speaker wire and they will go right through the grommets.

Made a rookie mistake and didn't take a picture of the head unit before I started unplugging harnesses from the back. There is one empty slot that I can't find a male harness to plug into and can't remember if anything was actually plugged into it. Anybody know what the plug circled in red is for? (Picture is from a google image search) That's the slot that is empty. I have an Entune premium audio system non jbl head unit. Everything seemed to be working properly after my late night install but left me uneasy to say the least.

Big thanks to @1sttruckguy78 and @Mr Marv for all the tips in this thread. Picked up my truck last Friday and put in some Alpine Type R components and a 445U I had from a previous vehicle on Saturday. Harness worked perfectly and install went smoothly (aside from pulling the wire from the x-over into the driver side door  ). I was amazed how small the magnet was on the stock 6x9s...quite possibly one of the cheapest feeling speakers I've ever put my hands on.

They are garbage and I need to hurry up and replace mine lol

On a side note I got my sub box built. Need to tune it and make it look nicer.

Not the door speakers. I been focused on getting subs first. I'm on my 3rd attempt and I think I finally found a winner lol

Looks great man!! How's your weather been up there in Washington? I'm from the Yakima area, don't miss snow one bit.

Didn't think to take pics, but it's a huge improvement over stock IMO. It fixes my one major complaint I had with the truck, and it sounds good enough that I'm not going to mess with a DSP or a new headunit. I pulled all the wires for my 8" under seat sub, but there wasn't enough clearance, and now I'm debating if I want to go for something bigger if I'm going to have to install behind the back seat anyway.
