I just thought I would try something different from the usual tent camping! I am looking into making a raised platform out of plywood and some 2x4's so I can still store some of my gear in the bed.

That could work. Also consider rigging up a tarp over you or setting up a very small tent back there on that platform. If weather is clear, you can just cowboy camp up there.

Since I will be just a few miles away from the ocean, the only thing I will have to worry about is a heavy dew or a pop-up storm.

IMG_0151.jpg Well, I think this is my final design for the ~8 man shelter I am going to make. This is primarily for ice fishing so I should be able to have a cot, a dog bed, stove and a few holes easily. Raised the bottom to make the most out of the floor space.

Trying to decide on material still but leaning towards 1.1 silpoly right now. Might go even heavier since I won't be "packing" this tent in for hunting and such.

I've ordered from them before, good stuff. Was super fast shipping IIRC

For sure I'll have a stove jack. And I will probably leave about 6-8 inches off the bottom for the sod skirt.

Not sure how I will make the stove yet. Trying to decide if I want to be able to break it down and keep it light, or build an air tight box that can better control the burn.

Hey gear junkies, what would be a good stove to keep in my truck? Looking for something that will be able to boil water and cook cans of soup. Just looking for something to use on my trips out to work on my property before I can get a road in to tow a camper out there. Looking at 2-3 days per trip, so something small is preferable.
I've seen a couple on Amazon and fleabay that are in the $7-12 range that sit directly on top of the fuel can/bottle.

Here is the one I use - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B4FY8YO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Very reliable and has a built in spark to light the burner. Will boil water quickly. I have a pot that this and the canister will fit into - makes a nice compact kit.

Cool. Thanks. That's one that I was looking at.

If you're going to be using wider base pots I'd look at something like the primus classic stove ($20 from anywhere...walmart even carries it in store) but if you were going to cook using smaller based pans the folding ones are the way to go since the burner is "tighter" so any handle you'll be touching won't have been heated up too badly

I have a Stanley Camp Cup that works nicely with on top of the small burner. Has a handle that sticks out away from the cup so it does not get hot.
