The only difference in the coils, with the exception of the 886 coils, is the free length.

I'm not sure I understand the question, but....
The coils themselves will produce a slightly different ride as more free length equals more initial preload. The same holds true with the notch settings, because they land at different locations the initial preload at assembly can produce a slightly different ride.

Does this answer your question

I should have said do OEM 2015 and 2016 coils ride the same at similar notches on the gen specific 5100's? Sorry I wasn't clear.

Well the new 5100 have a 5th notch so there's that. Also the projected lift heights are different and so preload is going to be different, which this will affect the ride. Aside from this if there is a difference in valving in the 5100s this can alter the feel from one to another. There is just way too many variables there to do a fair comparison.

Sooo I can't really say and have not physically tried to compare the two (i.e 2015 with 2nd gen 5100 at 2nd notch vs. 2016 with 3rd gen 5100 at 2nd notch).

thank you for the explanation, also the zero setting on both 5100's being different makes much more sense.

so i was planning on doing the ome 887's with the new gen 2 billsteins and some UCA's installed on a 2016 gen 3. would that be more then a 2" lift?
everyone always says not to go over a 2" lift on a gen 3 tacoma unless u do other things too.

So 2015 bilsteins set at .85 is the same as 2016 bilsteins set at .65 as far as front lift is concerned? Using stock springs

So because of the new ZERO notch setting on the 3rd Gen 5100s the 887 coil will see more initial compression. This would normally translate to more lift, however; because of the smaller extended length you will probably only get about 2.25". Though we do our own testing here, it really helps to gain feedback from the masses to ensure more accurate data. With minimal data available this is the approximate lift height we anticipate seeing.

We do agree with keeping the front of the truck at around 2" max lift. Aside from the angles, lifting the truck too much just takes from the down travel which in turn impacts the ride, specifically where droop is needed in the suspension to soften the blow (i.e. pot holes or dips in the rode).

Not the same, one is giving 0.85" of lift and the other is giving 0.65" of lift.
These are very exact numbers so think approximate. When I see 0.85" I think about 1" lift. When I see 0.65" I think about 0.5" lift. Coils are never exact anyways, there's always a product tolerance that needs to be considered which influences the actual lift height when all said and done.

Just keep in mind the lift heights for the 2nd Gen 5100 shocks (0.85, 1.75, 2.5) are for the 2nd Gen Tacos using the factory coils, if using these shocks for the 3rd gen Taco the lift heights will be different because the coils are different. We don't offer lift #s for the 3rd Gen Taco using the stock coils with the 2nd Gen 5100 shocks.

no because they start at different heights. 2nd Gen stock height is 20 inches and 3rd Gen is 21 inches. 2nd Gen at .85 would theoretically make is 20.85. First notch on 3rd Gen would be 21.65. Second notch on 2nd Gen is 21.75 second notch on 3rd Gen is 22.1. 3 notch on 2nd Gen would be 22.5. 3rd Gen would be 22.55 and so on...

ya know i wonder what the more experienced ppl with suspension think about this thought:

if the old 5100's have more overal travel then the new 5100's for the gen 3 taco then if u go with the bilstiens old 5100 but use ome springs for the lift and leave the shock at 0 then wouldn't the old 5100's be better and have more travel??

also u can't use the new 5100's with ome 887 or 888 unless u wanna go over the 2" lift and that definitely isn't recommended without other modification.

please school me if i'm completely wrong.
