That 250 will be nice. So light weight.

Although there is more of a difference than suspension between an 05 & 16 than he says

    He d
He said 06 suspension but he also said no big difference from 17's overall.

Think fair trade straight across? He won't put any $ in

If it's truly been rebuilt then it'd be a decent deal. I really enjoyed mine while it ran, lol.

    There's pretty big differences though.

The 06+ suspension is the biggest change by far, between the 05 to the 17. So if he has that, then that is nice. Ask for proof, if possible. A re-worked 05 fork by a shop will still not be as good as the 06+ stuff (with equal work done). Aside from the suspension, the other changes are pretty minor. 06 or 07 got the updated bigger handlebars as well as wave brake rotors. 2011 the seperate Euro / USA models were no more, as there was 1 model spec for both areas. Basically that just meant a bigger silencer and some jetting changes in the carb and decreased compression in head, across the board. Then in '15 was the new airbox and bodywork, along with another update to the suspension (but still based on the 06+ stuff). So ya, it is a good bike. If it is in good shape, i'd do it. The YZ 2strokes hold their value very well.

Yep, 2 stroke haha so I am pretty much new to dirt bikes. My DRZ was my first one.

I want to stop riding on the streets and have something lighter and smaller for trails. I am not going to be racing motocross or anything like that.

Trails out here are Sandy desert trails or loose dirt in the trees. Lots of rocks everywhere.

What would you guys do? He is not willing to put any $ on top of the trade.

I wouldn't get rid of the DRZ personally.

I will always have a street legal dualsport, too convenient to be able to go where ever i want whenever i want because i have a license plate

If you truly want a woods only bike then go for it. 2 strokes are easy enough to rebuild.

The weight is a huge factor. That's why it's so much more fun.

I'm taking my new 450 out woods riding Saturday for break in

My opinion, moneywise totally worth it. The bike is in good shape by the looks of it. As far as your needs, that is up to you. I will say this, if you have limited experience, that is a fast bike. No way around it. So it will tire you out and take some getting used to. but like Sacrifice says, they are light and super nimble. It's just the abrupt power that takes some time to get used to. The flywheel weight will help a bit, plus keep you from stalling in tight ares, which is nice. And like mentioned above, that bike is very reliable and easy to maintain. A huge plus, as far as going with a 250 2stroke.

Then why not get a trail/woods bike? I feel like that a motocross bike more then anything. I know they can be setup to be anything....but are you going to/ willing to do that?

Maybe I'm totally wrong though and there great woods bikes. Don't know much about Yamaha bikes.

Meh. They list them as motocross but it's pretty much the same thing. Now they have YZs that are "offroad" as well with the same motors.

This is why I asked here, I don't have a clue lol. I'm sure I'll be fine getting used to the powerband. I definately wont be riding it to its full potential though

When you come up on the pipe, you'll know. And you'll either be scared to death, or grin from ear to ear. If its meant for you, you'll do both. ;)

I like it but i want a smaller bike and really start hitting trails. If i could ride from my door to a trail I'd be all over it but it's about 45 min of highway to get anywhere off road. That's just to get to four peaks or sycamore. Anywhere in the woods is around 2 hours of highway.

So I want to get something to throw on a hitch hauler on my taco and go!
