I just had my 5000 mile service and asked to have the TSB done on the truck today. Drives awesome now. Maybe perfectly ?

So did mine. For roughly 1500 miles. Then back to the way it was before.

I had my truck updated with the TSB the week after it was released, seems to be back to where it was before, anyway, today I had a big shift flare within two blocks of the house, I actually pulled over and stopped and stared at the tach wondering what the hell just happened. I have zero confidence in this truck lasting anywhere close to previously owned Toyota trucks in the past, 1990 pre runner and 2002 Tacoma. I hope to make it to Glamis and back without a breakdown, sucks you have to have that in the back of your mind all the time while driving a 40k vehicle. I'm calling corporate when I return.

My main concern had always been the reverse to drive hesitation. No real problems on the higher gears since 1100 miles when I had the transmission fluid checked and filled. I enjoy using the manual shift mode...allows the engine to show her power and avoid the computer's opinion.:D

I am still enjoying the high... sounds like burn out could be heading my way.:burnrubber:

If you are able, can you post a video of the flare? You are not alone with that one.

I get a 3-4 flare twice a day. Once going to work and once leaving. They range from 300 rpm to 1500 rpm.

Do you have a Toyota Corporate case for this issue? Toyota is aware of this defect.

    AFFECTED 2016/17 TACOMA OWNERS
Strength in numbers, don't be silenced, these drivetrain issues are not worthy of being associated with the Tacoma product. We must continue to report to corporate( 800 331-4331), certain customer service employees are surely exhausted . They are dodging bullets from a large number of very disgusted Tacoma customers, a high number who have experienced hundreds of of thousands miles virtually trouble free and upon their history joyfully placed their faith, money, confidence in the hallowed third generation. Toyota should be embarrassed with the latest version of the highly regarded Tacoma. Countless numbers have, justified for sure, with the greatest of confidence , year after year purchased the Tacoma knowing the quality , reliability and oh yes the highest resale, regarded a solid rock of a truck, this too will suffer. WAKE UP TOYOTA, some of the faithful are jumping ship. So keep rattling the chains, Mighty Toyota will surely respond.

The only anomaly I see with my 2017 Taco ACLB TRD OR auto transmission is downshifting to 5th when traveling ~65MPH and encountering a minor upgrade in cruise control. The incline is so small that I can't believe it needs to downshift to maintain that speed. is this possibly related to this TSB?

This is pretty normal operation. The motor does not have a lot of low end torque (noticeable on the highway), and the 6th gear ratio is pretty high (numerically low). The engine management is trying to keep the truck from lugging. This is not a bad thing.

    Yes
Yes I had them keep the R to D case open even after the TSB for this.

The original tsb is still available because I just had it done this afternoon. As with everyone else, Its a major improvement and I'd be happy with the truck if it stayed the way it is now, I just don't expect it to last. Hopefully the revision will come out soon and make the fix permanent.

I test drove a 2016 and a 2017. I can floor it and let off the gas and the RPM gauge don't move. I tried accelerating into on coming traffic. The 2016/2017 truck has to decide if it wants to move and when. Very sluggish!! I think Toyota's desire to have better fuel economy is probably to blame for this slow truck. It is a whole different ride than the 2nd gen that responds instantly. The fishing for gears on hills is crazy annoying too.

Will this TSB fix those issues too?

I have had 4 different Tacomas and would love to get a 3rd generation truck, but IMO this is the most disappointing test drive ever. Toyota has missed the mark on this truck. It has a 3.5 star rating on edmunds.com.

I did drive a 380hp twin turbo Eco-boost Ford F-150. It is absolutely awesome, but I would like to stay with Toyota because of resale value and I love the size compared to the Ford. ECO-boost (0-60 in 5.9 seconds.)
